Livingston are defending well around the box, but it's the wide areas that are the problem for them at the moment. A lot of the players haven't played at this level and they just need to settle down

  16. Ferguson heading for top - Canningpublished at 14:55 British Summer Time 4 August 2018

    Hamilton Academical v Hearts (15:00)

Hamilton manager Martin Canning believes opposition teams will like Accies' new artificial pitch better than they did the old one.

"It is a great surface to play on, the ball moves true, the ball moves quick on it and hopefully we get a good game of football," he told BBC Scotland.

Canning, who is pleased with his summer signings, despite their League Cup exit, also enthused about Lewis Ferguson's goal from a spectacular overhead kick in Aberdeen's Europa League defeat by Burnley in midweek.

"It was fantastic and Lewis is a fantastic player and I've no doubt he will go to the top," he said of the midfielder who moved from Accies this summer.

"Doing that against a top quality side shows he has a bright future."

A new season and no doubt both sides will be anxious to get off to a good start. However, going by previous stats this could be Hearts’ day. Celtic v Livingston (15:00)

Livingston player-manager Kenny Miller, talking to BBC Sportsound:

"It's the toughest opening we could get. There won't be many teams who come here and get anything. I feel we've done enough work in preparation, it's now about putting that into practice.

"We have been a solid defensive unit for the last couple of years, so we will try to frustrate, silence the crowd.

"We won't be judged on games like this."

"I have a hungry group that wants to improve. They are very honest group, there are no egos, no frauds. It's important to win but the way we win is very important at Celtic.

"This season will be another challenge and we need to step up to that."
