    Hibernian 3-0 Motherwell

Those changes for Hibs mean Martin Boyle is back out in a more familiar wing-back role and Aussie poacher Jamie Maclaren is up top with Oli Shaw.

With a three-goal lead and opponents on the ropes, John McGinn decides to have an ambitious lash from long-range. It's nowhere near the goal but is still met with vigorous applause.

  2. Double switch for hostspublished at 16:22 British Summer Time 5 August 2018

    Hibernian 3-0 Motherwell

Now Hibs captain David Gray gets a warm reception as he goes off, with Vykintas Slivka taking over.

And there's another huge roar from the happy home fans as Jamie Maclaren, back on loan at Easter Road, trots on in place of Stevie Mallan.

  3. Motherwell make third changepublished at 16:20 British Summer Time 5 August 2018

    Hibernian 3-0 Motherwell

A wee lull in play as the pace drops temporarily. Motherwell make their final change as Danny Johnson takes over from Curtis Main.

The Motherwell boss Stephen Robinson is standing with his arms crossed looking disconsolate as his team are being torn apart by a rampant Hibernian.

The visitors defence just cannot cope with the pace of Boyle and the sharpness and youthful enthusiasm of Oli Shaw.

  5. Postpublished at 16:12 British Summer Time 5 August 2018

    Hibernian 3-0 Motherwell

Martin Boyle sets off on another run and even has time to recover from a stumble as he sets up David Gray on the overlap. The Hibs skipper drills the ball down the "corridor of uncertainty" but no player in green can get a touch.

    It's one-way traffic.

  6. McGinn situation 'baffling'published at 16:11 British Summer Time 5 August 2018

    Hibernian 3-0 Motherwell

    Jim Duffy
    BBC Sportsound summariser

We know there's a lot of scouts, a lot of talk, the Celtic bids for John McCinn. I cannot believe, if it's going to cost £3-4m, when I see some of the players down south going for double and treble that, how none of these English teams are going to pay that. It's an absolute snip, that, in modern football.

He's powerful, he's dynamic, he's got everything you want in a midfield player. He gets into a tackle. What are they seeing down there? What are these clubs looking at?

Is it almost snobbery, saying they want to go and spend £30m on a player rather than looking at Scotland and saying, look at the quality he has for the money?

    It absolutely baffles me.

  7. goal

GOAL Hibernian 3-0 Motherwellpublished at 16:08 British Summer Time 5 August 2018

    Martin Boyle

A fantastic goal... A slick sequence of short, sharp passes carves Motherwell open and Martin Boyle has acres of space to run into before he hammers a low shot past Trevor Carson from the edge of the penalty area.

  8. CLOSE!published at 16:07 British Summer Time 5 August 2018

    Hibernian 2-0 Motherwell

Hibs want a third goal. Centre half Paul Hanlon pops up in the Motherwell penalty area and drills a fierce cross at goalkeeper Trevor Carson. The ball is palmed out in a thicket of bodies and the visitors somehow hack it away.

We're off again at Easter Road.

Motherwell boss Stephen Robinson is not hanging about as he looks for a way back, with Elliott Frear and Gael Bigirimana on in place of Liam Grimshaw and Aaron Taylor-Sinclair.

  11. McGinn fee rising with every touch...published at 16:00 British Summer Time 5 August 2018

    HT: Hibernian 2-0 Motherwell

The Hibernian players are certainly not showing any signs of fatigue after their midweek European adventures.

John McGinn in particular has been quite oustatanding in the opening 45 minutes and the host of English scouts in the stand must already be sending back favourable reports of his performance this afternoon, with the fee rising every time he touches the ball.

Motherwell boss Stephen Robinson may have to make a few changes both tactically and with personnel but will remember they did manage a draw in this fixture last season having been two goals down.

  12. Do Motherwell need the Frear Factor?published at 15:58 British Summer Time 5 August 2018

    HT: Hibernian 2-0 Motherwell

    Peter Houston
Former Scotland assistant manager on BBC Sportsound

Motherwell need to get crosses into the box to feed Sammon and Main, who are good in the air. If you're playing a 4-4-2 diamond, you need your full-backs to get forward and play crosses in.

I look at Elliott Frear, he's dynamic, he goes at people, and they're crying out for something like that. It'll be interesting to see if Stephen Robinson changes it in the second half.

  13. Steelmen strugglingpublished at 15:56 British Summer Time 5 August 2018

    HT: Hibernian 2-0 Motherwell

Motherwell are missing a few key players from last season, including the midfield bite of the suspended Allan Campbell. What can they do to get back into this one? Elliott Frear is an option on the bench. He's fast and can whip in a decent cross.

The bad news for the visitors is that Hibs have Florian Kamberi and Jamie Maclaren in reserve and those two were banging in the goals for fun in the second half of last season.

  14. Mallan makes his markpublished at 15:53 British Summer Time 5 August 2018

    HT: Hibernian 2-0 Motherwell

That's five goals already for Hibs' summer signing Stevie Mallan - with three of those coming from free-kicks.

The lad is very handy at set-pieces.

  15. HALF-TIME Hibernian 2-0 Motherwellpublished at 15:49 British Summer Time 5 August 2018

Stevie Mallan slammed in a low free-kick and Oli Shaw struck a second goal just before half-time to give Hibs a healthy lead.

  16. GREAT SAVE!published at 15:48 British Summer Time 5 August 2018

    Hibernian 2-0 Motherwell

Hibs are a bit lax at the back and Chris Cadden almost profits as he burrows into the penalty area and digs in an angled shot from the right. Adam Bogdan has had nothing to do up until now but is up to the task, pushing the ball away at full-stretch.

  17. goal

GOAL Hibernian 2-0 Motherwellpublished at 15:45 British Summer Time 5 August 2018

    Oli Shaw

Martin Boyle leads the charge as Hibs counter-attack at pace. The move looks like it's broken down with a stray pass to Marvin Bartley but John McGinn picks up the scraps and delivers a delicious curling ball to the back post for Oli Shaw to squeeze a shot past Trevor Carson at the back post.

  20. McInnes eager to bolster defencepublished at 15:35 British Summer Time 5 August 2018

    FT: Aberdeen 1-1 Rangers

Derek McInnes tells BBC Radio Scotland he wants to add more defenders to his squad.

"Scott McKenna's out with a hamstring injury, Mark Reynolds is out with a cruciate injury, Tommie Hoban’s out, Shay Logan's suspended," the Dons boss said.

"We’ve got six defenders and four are injured or suspended. Our bench was so young today. Young Bruce Anderson comes on and it shows the importance of having those good kids.

"But for us to be where we want to be, we need more players in. We’ll look to address that this week and the focus now becomes the defensive side of things. We’ve got a few offers and enquiries in and we’re waiting for responses."
