    Gordon Smith

There's no doubt Derek McInnes has decided it's time to go all-out to get something from this game.

  2. CLOSE!published at 55mins

    Aberdeen 0-1 Rangers

Captain James Tavernier leads from the front and rages forward from left-back before giving Lassana Coulibaly a chance to launch a cross to the far post, but Josh Windass heads over the Dons crossbar from 10 yards.

  3. Midfield a mess for Dons - Millerpublished at 14:10 British Summer Time 5 August 2018

    Quote Message

Aberdeen's midfield has been poor in terms of demanding the ball and trying to make something happen

  4. May replaces Gleesonpublished at 51mins

    Aberdeen 0-1 Rangers

Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes makes a change, throwing on an extra striker.

Stevie May replaces Stephen Gleeson, who has been pretty anonymous in the Dons midfield.

  5. Postpublished at 47mins

    Aberdeen 0-1 Rangers

Rangers' 10 men threaten with another simple ball over the top.

James Tavernier's pass finds Jamie Murphy racing behind the defence but is driven wide by out-rushing goalkeeper Joe Lewis.

With Lewis stranded, Murphy's cross has the Dons defence in all kind of bother, but the ball is eventually scrambled clear.

  6. KICK-OFFpublished at 14:02 British Summer Time 5 August 2018

    Aberdeen 0-1 Rangers

Rangers get the second half under way. Can anything a no-doubt angry Derek McInnes has said at half-time bring an improvement in the home side?

    Quote Message

There is no zip in Aberdeen's play. It is well below the tempo they had against Burnley and it looks like they have struggled to recover from that game

  13. Two 'soft' decisions from officialspublished at 13:51 British Summer Time 5 August 2018

    HT: Aberdeen 0-1 Rangers

    Gordon Smith
Former Rangers striker on BBC Radio 5 live

I think it was stupid, but it was retaliation to a certain extent. He hardly made any contact. It was very, very soft. The penalty was soft as well. I don't think there was much contact at all.

  14. HALF-TIME Aberdeen 0-1 Rangerspublished at 13:46 British Summer Time 5 August 2018

    Chris McLaughlin
    BBC Sport Scotland at Pittodrie

Derek McInnes heads up the tunnel absolutely furious that his players have been second best to a Rangers side who played most of that first half with 10 men.

The visitors have looked sharper and slicker all across the pitch.

Steven Gerrard simply refused to sit back after the loss of Morelos and, so far, it’s paying off.

Huge effort needed from the Dons in the second half.

    Aberdeen 0-1 Rangers

Aberdeen at last find a bit of space down their left-wing and Niall McGinn's cross curls dangerously towards goal before goalkeeper Allan McGregor claws it wide.

From the corner, Sam Cosgrove heads wastefully over from 10 yards.

  16. Dons 'forcing things too much'published at 13:43 British Summer Time 5 August 2018

    Aberdeen 0-1 Rangers

    Billy Dodds
    Former Rangers striker on Sportsound

    Quote Message

Aberdeen are forcing things too much. They are are launching long balls down the middle when they should be keeping things simple and working the sides

  17. Postpublished at 37mins

    Aberdeen 0-1 Rangers

The officials are getting a bit of stick again as Lewis Ferguson appears to be pulled down by Nikola Katic as the Aberdeen nicks behind the Croatian defender.

But a goal kick is given instead of what could have been a free-kick in a dangerous position just outside the penalty box.

  18. Dons 'have created nothing'published at 13:37 British Summer Time 5 August 2018

    Aberdeen 0-1 Rangers

    Gordon Smith
Former Rangers striker on BBC Radio 5 live

I can't think of a single chance Aberdeen have had. Half an hour gone and they haven't created anything at all. Derek McInnes will not be happy, especially given the fact his team are at home and playing a team who are down to 10 men.

  20. 'Crazy from Ball'published at 13:34 British Summer Time 5 August 2018

    Aberdeen 0-1 Rangers

    Willie Miller
Former Aberdeen defender on BBC Sportsound

    Quote Message

It's a fabulous penalty from Tavernier, right in the corner. But it's crazy from Ball, tugging Windass, because he wasn't the man getting to the loose ball - it was Coulibaly
