Everton manager Marco Silva said: "The result didn’t reflect the match. During the match we had four or five chances to score. Our team came to play and press high, but their goalkeeper is the best player on the pitch, and I think it reflects our performance.

"The result is disappointing for us. They had one chance and scored, and we created a lot of chances but didn’t score.

"It is a clear offside for their second goal and it is a decision at an important stage, because at 1-0, we would have kept creating problems for them. I understand the job is difficult."

Everton midfielder Tom Davies said: "We are disappointed. I thought we were good in the first half, but if you don’t take your chances, they will punish you here. If we score it would have made a difference, but they sucker punched us and it is difficult to take. We worked hard all week but it wasn't enough so we will try and get a good result next week."

On his captaincy: "It’s a proud moment for me with my family watching on, I would like to keep hold of it. With some senior players out, I'm actually quite experienced, so I feel like it’s a natural role for me to take on."

Arsenal manager Unai Emery said: "We are happy because we wanted to win for our supporters, to continue improving, and the three points are very important. We didn’t control the match like we wanted to in the first half, but our goalkeeper had a good performance to keep us in it.

"We controlled the match better in the second half and didn't concede the chances we did in the first period. We finished the match with a smile on our face. We said we need a bit more at the break and the goal for Alex Lacazette is a good confidence-booster."

On Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's goal: "I haven't seen it again."

On Lucas Torreira: "Torreira was on a yellow card and I was thinking how can he control the game in the last few minutes with this card against him? But I think he did very well without the risk of losing another."

Arsenal v Everton is the highest-scoring fixture in Premier League history, with today's two goals taking the tally up to 153.

Speaking to BBC Sport, Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech said: "We had two difficult games to start with, and having lost both you need to find a way to pick yourself up, but now we have four wins in a row which is creating a momentum, and I think it helped us to get through the game.

"Everton created a lot of chances in the first half and we had to stick together and wait for our opportunity to score which made the difference. I’m delighted with the performance and the clean sheet. I had a lot to do today and I had to help the team stay in the game, and as an experienced player, you have to do your part."

Speaking to Sky Sports, Arsenal forward Alexandre Lacazette said: "A big thanks to Petr Cech because he took a lot of balls today and we won our first clean sheet."

On his goal: "We work a lot in training, so I know what I'm trying to do when I get the ball in that area. The control is the most important thing to score a goal so I did my best with the first touch."

Asked who will score more goals between him and strike partner Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Lacazette said: "I think we will finish on the same number of goals."

A very tidy showing from Arsenal right-back Hector Bellerin, who completed 97.2% of his passes and got forward to deliver quality into box amid that stat.

He also managed two shots, one on target and the other blocked.

Dave Payn: A clean sheet and Xhaka not even booked. Feels weird.

Joshua KH: Yes it flatters Arsenal, but we have had grit to win without being brilliant this season. Wasn't present under Wenger.

Arsenal forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang speaking to Sky Sports: "I think 20 times maybe, Cech kept us in the game. I think we are improving every day and feeling good and better, so when we win it is better for the team. It is going well and we are enjoying training at the training ground."

On his partnership with Alexandre Lacazette: "We are close off the pitch, we go for dinner - not every night! We have had a good relationship since day one and enjoy playing together."

On his goal today: "I just heard that I was offside like last season against Everton, but I have to say that it's a great job from Mezut and Aaron."

Alexandre Lacazette says Arsenal owe a "big, big thanks" to Petr Cech today.

Can't disagree with him there, the Gunners stopper made a number of important saves to keep the hosts in the game either side of the break.

A good win for Arsenal without really being at their best. And a clean sheet to boot.

Everton looked the more likely to score for 55 minutes, but were shell-shocked by those two quick goals from the Gunners.

Just the one win for Marco Silva's side in the Premier League so far this season.
