Of course, the Premier League takes a break now for a couple of weeks as international football takes over.

Will any momentum built by tonight's victory at Old Trafford have dispelled for Manchester United by the time they face Chelsea on Saturday 20 October?

Robert Simon: Jose Mourinho was never the problem of this team. He has always wanted a team that plays from the back. Paul Pogba played from the back and see how the game changed. We need a defender that plays like that. Woodward is one person that should be criticised more.

  4. 'It is difficult to take'published at 20:05 British Summer Time 6 October 2018

    Man Utd 3-2 Newcastle

    Newcastle United

Speaking to BBC Sport, Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez said: "It is difficult to take because we did so well. At 2-0 we had chances to score the third and we had control against a very good team. When we conceded the first goal we started to have problems because they have so many good players that they could bring off the bench, and it is is difficult to contain them.

"We have been solid in a lot of games, but we pushed forward well and created chances well, but the ones we didn't take made the difference. We have to stay calm and be sure we continue working in this way, because we will win games if we play like that."

More from Jose Mouinho, speaking to BT Sport: "As a friend of mine was saying to me this morning, if tomorrow it rains in London it is my fault.

"If there is some difficulties with the agreements of Brexit, it is my fault.

"I have to be ready for all of this. I think a lot of wickedness and clear man-hunting, in football is too much. It is my life. It is life I love and since I was kid I work for this."

    Man Utd 3-2 Newcastle

    Manchester United

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho, speaking to BT Sport: "Marcus Rashford was sad on the pitch, Scott McTominay was scared on the pitch. Even older players commit mistakes that are not normal.

"At half-time we had a good conversation. We didn't promise that we would win the match. We promised we would give absolutely everything without any fear, without any pressure, just the pressure of giving everything and of course they gave everything.

"We fought so much. They deserve even if game ends 2-2. The feeling would be a positive feeling because nobody can promise to win matches."

Are there still doubts around Mourinho's ability?

KN: Good comeback. I won’t complain about 3 points. But the fact that we had to resort to desperation formations & players playing out of positions speaks of an underlying problem, whether that be the manager’s tactics, players’ attitudes or other issues.

Supil: Sorry but even if the result is a win, it was against a very poor Newcastle. Next up: Juventus, Chelsea, Everton, Bournemouth and City. That run will tell a lot more about Mourinho's future at United.

  13. 'I didn't point a pistol at them'published at 19:56 British Summer Time 6 October 2018

    Man Utd 3-2 Newcastle

    Manchester United

More from Jose Mourinho on his future as Manchester United manager: "They gave me contract until July 2020. I have a contract to 2020, I didn't point a pistol at them. They give me the contract because they wanted to give it me."

  14. 'If it rains it is my fault'published at 19:55 British Summer Time 6 October 2018

    Man Utd 3-2 Newcastle

    Manchester United

More from Jose Mourinho to BBC Sport: "If you look to history of AC Milan you don't think it is normal that they are where they are.

"In the biggest clubs in the world there are periods with a lot of meat and periods with a lot of bones."

On job speculation going away with victory: "No. I go to London now and if it rains tomorrow in London then it is my fault."

  15. 'We played the second half with a different spirit'published at 19:54 British Summer Time 6 October 2018

    Man Utd 3-2 Newcastle

    Manchester United

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho to BBC Sport: "It happened that we started nervous, the team in my opinion didn't cope well with the pressure of the manhunting.

"Every ball around our box was almost a goal or some mistake, a bad decision, panic. And at half-time we spoke, everybody, and the team faced the second half with a different spirit, a different belief, giving everything for the victory.

"These football clubs, they are not made only of just victories and just difficult moments, but always with pride. Not just always victories, always pride. In the second half it's of pride. We needed the victory too, everything is better.

"At half-time we are losing 2-0 and I know we can do better what we are doing. But football is football and every result is possible as you can see."

  17. 'I see manhunting'published at 19:50 British Summer Time 6 October 2018

    Man Utd 3-2 Newcastle

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho, speaking to BT Sport: "Not substitutions, it is mentality it is desire, it is commitment. As I used to say nobody is important, only the club. It is not about me or the players. It is about the club. In the second half the players gave absolutely everything, they had nothing more to give.

"I am 55 years old. It is the first time I see manhunting. I can cope with it. I can live with it. Some of the boys, in spite of them not being the man that is hunted, they are not coping well with it. The way we started game they were panicking. Every ball into the box, even in some moments I thought we could score in our own goal."

  18. 'A lot of wickedness in something that used to be beautiful'published at 19:49 British Summer Time 6 October 2018

    Man Utd 3-2 Newcastle

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho, speaking to BT Sport: "It is not easy for them [the players]. For me it is not easy too but I think life is made of experiences. Some are new and some are deja vu.

"This is new, it makes me not just a better manager but even a better person. I understand things in the human nature nowadays and in the industry where I work, I used to love it, I still love it is but it is different.

"There is too much wickedness in something that should be beautiful. I cope with it with some sadness. I am a mature I am a big boy and I will deal with it."
