Chelsea v Crystal Palace (16:00 GMT)

Crystal Palace are another team struggling for goals - they got two penalties against Arsenal last week but have a total of seven goals from their first 10 matches.

The Eagles' attack relies heavily on Wilfried Zaha, and if he does not produce some magic then they look short of ideas.

Chelsea, in contrast, are on a roll. Even without Eden Hazard they looked a class apart from Burnley last weekend, and were convincing winners.

Blues boss Maurizio Sarri has got a talented squad and happy camp - they are playing well, winning and enjoying themselves, and I think that will continue on Sunday.

    Prediction: 2-0

  2. 'Can't disguise the enormity'published at 14:34 Greenwich Mean Time 4 November 2018

Chelsea v Crystal Palace (16:00 GMT)

Crystal Palace manger Roy Hodgson: "We can't disguise the enormity of the task.

"We can't make out it will be easier than it is going to be, but we have played well against Liverpool and Arsenal. Our belief and confidence is based on that.

"I don't prepare for teams to underestimate us, because I think we have done enough not to be underestimated. I don't think anyone will see it as a foregone conclusion."

  3. 'Moses and Drinkwater must improve'published at 14:30 Greenwich Mean Time 4 November 2018

Chelsea v Crystal Palace (16:00 GMT)

Chelsea midfielder Danny Drinkwater and winger Victor Moses "have to improve" if they want a future at the club, says manager Maurizio Sarri.

Drinkwater has played just once for the Blues this season, in the Community Shield, while Moses, has made six appearances.

When asked if they still have Chelsea futures, Sarri said: "I don't know."

"They have to improve, but the characteristics are a little bit different."

  4. Ruffling a few featherspublished at 14:24 Greenwich Mean Time 4 November 2018

Chelsea v Crystal Palace (16:00 GMT)

When you're sat just three points above the relegation zone, a trip to Stamford Bridge to face a Chelsea side who remain unbeaten in the league, is not ideal.

But Palace are capable of ruffling a few feathers with the likes of Wilfried Zaha and Andros Townsend in their wings.

Roy Hodgson's side haven't won in five games in all competitions though and Chelsea will be keen to take advantage of Liverpool's draw with Arsenal - a win would move them level on points.

Chelsea thrashed Burnley in their last league encounter but only narrowly beat Derby in the Carabao Cup at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday.

  5. 'Hazard may not be fully ready'published at 14:20 Greenwich Mean Time 4 November 2018

Chelsea v Crystal Palace (16:00 GMT)

Chelsea head coach Maurizio Sarri on Eden Hazard's fitness: "Yesterday Eden [Hazard] had a large part of training with the team. Maybe he will not be ready to play for 90 minutes at the moment because it was his first training in the last two weeks.

"But probably he will be able to play for 40, 45 minutes. So for us it's important."

  6. 'Football does throw up surprises'published at 14:16 Greenwich Mean Time 4 November 2018

Chelsea v Crystal Palace (16:00 GMT)

    Steve Wilson
    Match of the Day commentator

On the face of it there seems little likelihood of Crystal Palace ending Chelsea's unbeaten start to the Premier League season.

Palace have been severely hampered by injuries to their strikers, but even at full strength their squad looks short on real top-flight quality.

Wilfried Zaha has that in spades, of course, but would he regularly get in Chelsea's side? Almost certainly not - and that's the gulf Roy Hodgson has to try to bridge. But the beauty of football is that it does throw up surprises - and Palace's wins at Chelsea in 2015 and 2017 certainly fall into that category.

After his time at Inter Milan, Roy Hodgson's reputation among Italian coaches has remained high - and Maurizio Sarri will be more wary of Hodgson's scheming than any single name on the Eagles' team sheet.

  7. Early team newspublished at 14:12 Greenwich Mean Time 4 November 2018

Chelsea v Crystal Palace (16:00 GMT)

Chelsea's Eden Hazard is expected to be fit to play some part after recovering from a back injury.

Blues midfielder Ross Barkley is set to return having been rested for Wednesday's Carabao Cup win over Derby County.

Wilfried Zaha missed Crystal Palace's midweek defeat at Middlesbrough with a shoulder problem but is fit.

But Connor Wickham joins Christian Benteke, Scott Dann and Joel Ward on the sidelines due to a thigh strain.

Man City v Southampton (15:00 GMT)

Pep Guardiola makes one change to the side which beat Tottenham last Monday, as Leroy Sane comes in for Riyad Mahrez, who drops to the bench.

There's no place for Brahim Diaz in the squad, however, he scored twice in their Carabao Cup victory over Fulham on Thursday.

Mark Hughes makes three changes to his team who drew with Newcastle last Saturday, as Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg returns from illness.

Shane Long and James Ward-Prowse also come in, as Charlie Austin and Mohamed Elyounoussi are named among the substitutes and Oriol Romeu misses out completely.

Southampton manager Mark Hughes has been talking on BBC Radio 5live

On reaching 600 Premier League games as a manager: “With experience you can see that a team isn’t quite where it needs to be, compared to if you’ve been a manager for 10-15 games.

“But after 600 you get the sense of what the team needs to be to get the maximum effect out of them”

Saints manager Mark Hughes on Raheem Sterling’s impending deal: ”I have no problem with the guys at top of table doing the business and getting the job done for the top teams.

“Credit to Raheem Sterling, he has done exceptionally well for a long time and he is at a level where it starts to elevate him to the top players in world football and he should be rewarded.

“His wages don’t reflect what we’re trying to do here.”

Francis Edwards: Typical of Wayne to return against a weak, much lesser side. He retired and in my opinion does not deserve a special game like this. Never turned up against big teams or at a tournament.

Mr. Untactical: I think it's absolutely fine for Wayne Rooney to play one more time for England. I think he's showed this year (MLS playoffs notwithstanding) that he is still in good form. Hopefully, he will be able to train somewhere (Man Utd?) so he is fit for the game.

Keith Edmunds: I'm one of Rooney's biggest fans and a United supporter for 50+ years and I hate this idea...and also another utterly pointless fixture in the stupidly crowded football calendar.

Big M: Words initially failed me. I had to check the date to make sure it isn't April 1. Nothing against Rooney - he was one of the best we had in a very poor period for England that led to the national apathy we saw before the last World Cup. However, this decision demeans the earning of a cap and I deplore the FA's trading of the rich tradition of England internationals for a charity showbiz occasion.

Mike79: I think if any other nation announced this - eg when Henry retired if France had, had a testimonial game for him it would have been applauded as giving the fans a chance to say goodbye, England do it and I can guarantee there will be huge criticism. I think it's a great idea and I'm sure the match will be sold out so great chance to benefit a charity.

  16. 'We want to exploit them' - Hughespublished at 13:40 Greenwich Mean Time 4 November 2018

Man City v Southampton (15:00 GMT)

    Southampton

On playing Manchester City: “We have a plan to play City.

“It is difficult; we are arguably playing one of the top teams in the world at the minute.

“We have been discussing elements maybe, where we feel will give us the opportunity to affect them and understand their current form and see what they are trying to achieve in games and look at areas we can try to exploit.

“If you can force Man City to areas they don’t want to be in, then you can affect them adversely.

“We’ll go there with good hearts and confidence and try and play well.”

A few of the many comments on Rooney's return.

Rozza1980: I think some of you need to read the article before posting a comment. He is doing it to raise some £ for his foundation, which gives funds to disadvantaged and sick children.

Milkonesugar: If they want to play a charity match then fair enough but it shouldn't be classed as a friendly, with caps awarded, call it an exhibition match and leave it as that.

Bav: A meaningless friendly, which could have used to blood some more players, or try some tactical changes, now turned into a meaningless testimonial for Wayne Rooney, who is 2 years retired from internationals.

I'm sure they could have found time in the off season to do this charity match. I wouldn't want any players from my club taking part in it increasing their chances of picking up an injury.
