That really couldn't have been any easier for City, who are on a phenomenal run.

Since they lost here to Lyon in September, their record is P10 W9 D1 L0 F28 A2.

They are going to take some stopping when it comes to the major honours this season.

Where do we start? A wonderful performance. It could have been a lot more. The desire and running was there even when it was comfortable.

A wonderful performance against a poor Southampton team.

Six goals needed (at least) to be shown first on Match of the Day 2, I reckon. City have sort of stolen the show.

Another 45 minutes to go. Anything can happen!

They beat Huddersfield by the same scoreline in August.

  8. FULL-TIMEpublished at 90+2 mins

    Man City 6-1 Southampton

Brutal. City go back to the top with a superb win. It could easily have been 10 or more.

Sterling, Aguero and Sane the stars.

Raheem Sterling is down the left and he could have been selfish, but he finds Leroy Sane. Alex McCarthy gets a hand to it and might think he should keep it out.

    Six for City. Magnificent.

    HT: Chelsea 1-0 Crystal Palace

Chelsea have controlled the possession that half but when they have lost it Crystal Palace have been a threat. In particular Wilfred Zaha has been Crystal Palace's best player that half.

Chelsea in the last 20 minutes have been very good.

    Leroy Sane

    He's got one!

City pour forward in numbers again and Raheem Sterling is very unselfish in giving up the chance of a hat-trick to set up Leroy Sane, who takes a touch and slots his shot into the net.

To paraphrase the words of the great Barry Davies... to say Man City are playing with Southampton is the understatement of the season. Poor Southampton just don`t know what day it is. It is almost cruel.

    Man City 5-1 Southampton

There was Phil Foden's big moment. He has a clear sight of goal, 10 yards out, but his strike is blocked by a diving Saints body. No goals yet for the young midfielder. Only a matter of time, though.

  13. HALF-TIMEpublished at 16:47 Greenwich Mean Time 4 November 2018

    Chelsea 1-0 Crystal Palace

It's going to plan for Chelsea after a shaky start. Palace haven't had much of a look-in.

    Chelsea 1-0 Crystal Palace

Alvaro Morata can't control a long ball over the top and Palace have the ball back for a few seconds before Chelsea regain possession.

One minute to go before half-time.

Nope. Leroy Sane blasts the ball over the bar.

Shane Long again. Aymeric Laporte gifts him the ball, but instead of running at goal he tries to catch Ederson out with a shot from near halfway. He doesn't catch it at all and the ball bobbles to the City keeper.

    Deeper and deeper.

Palace's average positions (below) tell the story of the last 20 minutes. The goal from the hosts has changed the tone of the game. Chelsea are very comfortable.

But they're not quite 5-1 comfortable.

  19. 'Morata should score'published at 16:42 Greenwich Mean Time 4 November 2018

    Chelsea 1-0 Crystal Palace

    Don Hutchison
Former Everton midfielder on BBC Radio 5 live

Álvaro Morata should score, one from the training ground that.

Far too easy for Roy Hodgson's liking, Morata never looked like scoring, that should have been an easy header.

  20. Postpublished at 83 mins

    Man City 5-1 Southampton

Poor Shane Long. Seventeen games he's gone without a goal. He only has one in 28 games.

He has a golden chance to net what would be a meaningless one for his side, but a big one for him personally as the ball finds him at the near post. He controls, turns, and fires wide.

This after Saints had made their third change, sending on Stuart Armstrong for Danny Ings.
