Speaking of Paul Pogba, he's just rocked up on the pitch at the Etihad Stadium.

He's currently loitering behind Manchester City coach Brian Kidd, occasionally having a glance over to his Manchester United team-mates as they go through their warm ups.

Now he's having a natter with Leroy Sane.

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has explained why Paul Pogba is not in the squad today.

“Paul is injured," he told Sky Sports. "He was injured during the game in Turin. He resisted. He felt that he could resist. He felt that it was such a crucial match for the team. He made that sacrifice for us, and then it was impossible for him to recover for this match.”He is a very important player for us. People sometimes like to focus on the little problems in his performance, and we do the same. We try to make him the complete player. But his qualities are so, so good, and so important for the team at many different levels."

Mourinho also confirmed that Alexis Sanchez is struggling with a knock he picked up during last week's game against Juventus.

I think Chelsea have come up against a well drilled side. They could've offered something different in the second half as the game petered out.

With just Alvaro Morata out there maybe they had the opportunity to go two up front and ask slightly different questions.

The free-kick is cleared comfortably and it's all over at Stamford Bridge. A great result for Everton but a disappointing one for Chelsea, who fall two points behind rivals Liverpool.

Idrissa Gueye clears and plays it long to Dominic Calvert-Lewin. The flag is up and Chelsea take the free-kick quickly.

David Luiz' long ball is headed clear but Marcos Alonso then wins a free-kick in the middle of the pitch.

    Last chance!

A noteworthy statistic in the two starting line-ups at the Etihad Stadium this afternoon.

Pep Guardiola signed seven of the 11 Manchester City starters. Only two of the players Jose Mourinho has signed for Manchester United start for the visitors.

Sir Alex Ferguson and Louis van Gaal bought three each, David Moyes one and two were home grown.

As expected, the Manchester City fans jeer as the Manchester United players come out to warm-up at the Etihad. I have spoken to a few City fans who are delighted that Paul Pogba is not playing this afternoon, although none of them are counting any chickens after what happened here last season.

Whatever you say Ross Barkley was in his comfort zone at Everton. He was overweight and unfit. Something like this was a necessity for his own career. Not necessarily monetary, but he had to leave Everton.
