• Burnley have won just one of their last nine Premier League home games, losing six
• Newcastle enjoyed their first win in their last 11 Premier League games played on a Monday night.
• Since the start of 2016-17, only Lewis Dunk (4) has scored more own-goals in the Premier League than Burnley’s Ben Mee (3, level with Ryan Shawcross).
• Matt Ritchie has registered 14 league assists for Newcastle United since joining the Magpies ahead of 2016-17, more than any other player for the club.
• Burnley’s Sam Vokes' goal was scored from 17.65 yards out, the furthest distance for a headed Premier League goal since Jamie Vardy for Leicester against Sunderland in August 2015 (18.03).

Burnley

More from Sean Dyche: "You need luck sometimes, but biggest thing is you need to take care of yourselves.

"There were positives for us, it was a good marker, now we have turn it into results.

"There's no lack of character, our mentality is intact. We had a chance at the dying stage through Sam Vokes to get an equaliser so the character is still there.

"We need to keep going with that mentality, that's important, especially when people are asking questions."

Burnley

Burnley manager Sean Dyche, speaking to BBC Sport: "I'm frustrated that the margins that are so important in these games have gone against us.

"The first goal is frustrating because it is unlucky, going in off a deflection, and the second goal is a soft goal.

"From then on, in the main, we were very good, we deserved the goal and got back into it.

"The second half, after a slow start, we provided enough to get an equaliser. We created chances but now we have to take them and then lock the door. There were better signs but we need results, we know that."

Burnley manager Sean Dyche, speaking to Sky Sports: "There was an unlucky goal and then a poor goal. A lot of aspects of our performance I was pleased with - we mixed our play and we created chances but the margins are small.

"On balance we probably deserved something but once you give those goals away it's difficult at 2-0 down in the Premier League. The mentality was excellent but obviously I'm very frustrated with the result.

"We had to stretch their back five, which we attempted to do in the second half. There were some moments of really good play so looking beyond the result then we're starting to come back to what we think we can be.

"There is a process at the moment with the team getting stronger. We are starting to look like what we can be but we've got to get on the right side of those margins. That takes work, mental toughness - which we have - and resilience. We've had to fight for everything we've got so far and we'll continue to do that."

Burnley

Burnley goalscorer Sam Vokes: "We're still wondering how we didn't get something. We started sloppy with two early goals and it was an uphill task after that.

"But we grew into game and created chances. We can take heart from the performance but not the result.

"I thought the momentum was with us and even in the second half we were on top.

"We have high expectations of ourselves, there were some positives from the performance and we will take that into the weekend.

"We need to make Turf Moor a fortress again."

Newcastle United

Newcastle manager Rafael Benitez, talking to BBC Sport: "Every game for us is like a final. Winning is massive because it gives us more confidence. There is still a long race ahead but we are doing well and hopefully we can continue that.

"We needed to win and to perform well. The players did it and were amazing in terms of effort, organisation and team spirit.

"We were working in the week trying to manage Burnley's two big centre-forwards and the players did really well.

"The main thing for us is to make sure we can get something out of these games. We have confidence now and the players will continue pushing and working hard."

Uday: Rafa has outsmarted the lot with that tactical masterclass today.

Newcastle United

Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez, speaking to Sky Sports:"The main thing was the effort of the players. We had an idea of how to play, we knew crosses would come from everywhere, we defended well, our effort and attitude was great.

"We stuck to the gameplan. We suffered a bit at the end but we could have scored a third goal."

On playing three centre-backs: "We had (left-back) Paul Dummett injured so we had to change something. The idea was to play with three centre backs against two big strikers and it worked really well.

"Our defenders did well because the strikers are big and then they put another big lad up front."

On his side's goals coming from corners: "We knew we could play short because they were deep and we had time to get in the cross."

I'm a massive fan of Sean Dyche. He's worked wonders at this club and they've punched above their weight for so long. But you can't keep playing like that - pumping long balls up to two big lads up front. They need something different. They'll score the odd goal like that but not two or three and then you're not going to dominate sides, so you'll always be under pressure. They need to change the way they play.

David Melton: Based on the last 10 minutes of Burnley v Newcastle, I think the Premier league should bring in a new Rush Goalie rule of both teams playing their keeper midfield or striker for least 10 minutes.

I tell you who is the most relieved man at Turf Moor. Not Rafael Benitez... Matt Ritchie.

The Newcastle winger came up with the miss of the season, blasting wide from a yard and a half which would have put the visitors 3-1 ahead.

Luckily he can laugh about it as he walks off the pitch with his manager.

"If we'd not won that game you'd have been walking home, son," may or may not be what Rafa was saying...

The trouble for Newcastle fans is it looks like Rafael Benitez is going to do it again and will get Newcastle out of trouble. But that means Mike Ashley will stay. That's the issue for them.

Burnley have lost four of their opening six home league games in a top-flight season for the first time since 1970-71...

That long trip back to Tyneside will be very enjoyable. Newcastle's players and their travelling fans celebrate in style as the home fans quickly file out.

Burnley haven't won in six matches and stay in 17th place, a point above the relegation zone.
