    Bournemouth v Liverpool (12:30 GMT)

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp opted for a cartoon analogy before this fixture almost exactly two years ago - describing Bournemouth as "a little village always fighting back, like Asterix and Obelix".

As it turned out, that memorable game was a seven-Gaul thriller - Bournemouth coming back from 3-1 down to win 4-3 in stoppage time as Loris Karius spilled a Steve Cook shot at the feet of Nathan Ake, who won it from point-blank range in the 93rd minute.

  10. 'West Ham can now find consistency'published at 11:49 Greenwich Mean Time 8 December 2018

West Ham v Crystal Palace (15:00 GMT)

    Mark Scott
    Match of the Day commentator

It's a startling statistic that West Ham's win over Cardiff gave them back-to-back Premier League victories for the first time in almost two years. After a slow start to the season, Manuel Pellegrini's side now look capable of delivering some long-awaited consistency.

While Marko Arnautovic's injury is a blow, Pellegrini has the luxury of goals coming from a number of other sources - in contrast, finding the net is Palace's major issue, with their failure to threaten 10-man Brighton the latest worrying display in attack.

While you can look at the vast number of chances they created against Burnley as a positive, their conversion rate both that afternoon and across the season as a whole must be a big concern for Roy Hodgson.

West Ham forward Marko Arnautovic has been ruled out for a month with a thigh muscle injury sustained in the win over Cardiff on Wednesday.

Andy Carroll made his first appearance of the season as a substitute in that game, while Pablo Zabaleta and Fabian Balbuena are fit again.

Crystal Palace have no new injury problems, with boss Roy Hodgson able to select from a near full-strength squad.

Christian Benteke, Connor Wickham and Scott Dann remain sidelined.

  12. 'Anything other than United win seems improbable'published at 11:45 Greenwich Mean Time 8 December 2018

Man Utd v Fulham (15:00 GMT)

    Alistair Mann
    MOTD commentator

Though it's Fulham who are at the bottom, there are many more questions being posed about Manchester United.

Without a win in four and some 18 points behind their city rivals at the top, a much improved display against Arsenal in midweek is still someway off silencing their many critics.

Considering Fulham's appalling away record and equally depressing recent run of results at Old Trafford, anything other than a United win this weekend seems improbable. However, with four points in three games since Claudio Ranieri's arrival, the Cottagers won't have written off their chances.

With low expectations and pivotal games against West Ham, Newcastle, Wolves and Huddersfield to end December, Fulham will be viewing this game as a free hit.

  13. Early team newspublished at 11:44 Greenwich Mean Time 8 December 2018

Man Utd v Fulham (15:00 GMT)

Manchester United will assess the fitness of Anthony Martial, Luke Shaw, Chris Smalling, Eric Bailly and Phil Jones, who are all nursing injuries.

Ashley Young is available following a one-match suspension but Victor Lindelof and Alexis Sanchez remain out.

Fulham pair Kevin McDonald and Floyd Ayite are expected to return from respective hamstring and groin injuries.

On-loan defender Timothy Fosu-Mensah is ineligible to face his parent club.

  14. 'Hasenhuttl enthusing fans already'published at 11:41 Greenwich Mean Time 8 December 2018

    Cardiff v Southampton (15:00 GMT)

    Chris Wise
    Match of the Day commentator

New Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl offered an early glimpse of his engaging personality at his unveiling this week.

Dubbed the 'Klopp of the Alps', the Austrian set about charming the media with analogies involving washing machines, and even one about the Titanic, which set sail from the city over 100 years ago.

His fresh approach is already enthusing Saints fans, but the proof will be provided in the crucial weeks ahead.

Many would have predicted Cardiff, rather than Southampton, would occupy a spot in the bottom three at the start of December but, typically, Neil Warnock's side are fighting tough.

The bulk of their points have come at home, where they've clearly found their feet.

Cardiff continue to face injury problems in attack, with makeshift striker Callum Paterson set to lead the line against Southampton.

Kenneth Zohore remains out with a calf injury, while Danny Ward and defender Jazz Richards are both unavailable and Gary Madine is a doubt.

Southampton captain Ryan Bertrand is a doubt, having missed the defeat against Tottenham with a back problem.

Michael Obafemi and Danny Ings have hamstring injuries and may miss out.

    No Callum Wilson for Bournemouth!

The England forward, who has weighed in with eight top-flight goals this season, misses his first Premier League game of the season.

Also missing from the side that started the 2-1 win over Huddersfield on Tuesday is midfielder Lewis Cook, who is facing up to nine months out after damaging cruciate ligaments.

There are recalls for Andrew Surman and Junior Stanislas.

Bournemouth XI: Begovic, Francis, S Cook, Ake, Daniels, Stanislas, Lerma, Surman, Fraser, Brooks, King.

Subs: Boruc, Pugh, Mousset, Ibe, Defoe, Rico, Mings.

James Milner captains Liverpool on his 500th Premier League appearance while there are recalls for Mohamed Salah, Andrew Robertson, Roberto Firmino, Fabinho and Georginio Wijnaldum.

Sadio Mane is on the bench along with the likes of Jordan Henderson, Daniel Sturridge and Divock Origi.

Trent Alexander-Arnold is also a substitute so Fabinho or Milner are set to start at right-back.

Liverpool XI: Alisson, Fabinho, Matip, van Dijk, Robertson, Milner, Wijnaldum, Keita, Shaqiri, Salah, Firmino.

Subs: Mane, Henderson, Sturridge, Lallana, Mignolet, Origi, Alexander-Arnold.

Bournemouth midfielder Andrew Surman has had to be patient for Premier League game time recently - but the Cherries vice-captain, cover star of today's match programme, earns a recall to the starting XI after Lewis Cook's long-term injury.

With Dan Gosling also currently sidelined, Surman and Jefferson Lerma can expect a busy December as the only two out-and-out central midfielders currently available from Eddie Howe's senior squad.
