This is a fine game. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang puts in a telling cross which is well cut out and then from the corner Alexandre Lacazette's header is superbly saved by Alex McCarthy. The flag was up though - wouldn't have counted...

Francis Edwards: Finally Klopp has realised that in order to really challenge City he can’t play three defensive midfielders. Glad Henderson is the one to drop out, he really does very little apart from occasionally shout at the ref.

That was an incredible spot by Sian Massey-Ellis on the far side. I don't often praise officials but that was a great spot, to see through all those bodies. Shane Long was offside.

    Shane Long scores! No!

It is a very good call too. He was offside from an original header from Maya Yoshida, Bernd Leno claws it out and Long scrambled it in from about a yard out. He sprinted halfway down the touchline in celebration too. Poor guy.

  10. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 14:58 Greenwich Mean Time 16 December 2018

    Southampton 2-2 Arsenal

Alex Iwobi is a new man this season, and he does wonders down near the corner flag to somehow play the ball off his standing leg and flick it past a defender to take him into th ebox. It was classy, but seconds later he's replaced by Mesut Ozil.

Southampton have been better today. They've had more spirit about them and the manager's had an impact already in terms of attitude and self-belief.

But on the balance of play and the quality they have in the side, if anyone is going to nick it then it's going to be Arsenal.

A Christmas quiz question: what went up from 35% in 2017 to 38% last year? Answer: Manchester United's meagre possession away to Liverpool.

To balance things, a follow-up could be: what hasn't happened in the clubs' last eight Premier League meetings? A Liverpool win.

United's defence surely hasn't been solid enough to sit back and set up for a third 0-0 draw at Anfield in a row - but if Jose Mourinho challenges his biggest stars to step up and match the league leaders, the risk could override the chance of reward.

A test of Liverpool's ever-improving title credentials. A test of United's togetherness. A test of the seasonal concept of peace and goodwill to all men!

Unlucky! Wonderful strike from Marcos Alonso, from the edge of the area, lovely drive and it stings the outside of the far post and bounces to safety.

    Fine effort.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's first touch let him down and forced him to go wide.

But, again, Arsenal are looking very dangerous going forward.

They're really starting to ramp up the pressure. Territory and possession, it's all Arsenal now.
