  1. goal

GOAL - Southampton 2-2 Arsenalpublished at 14:41 Greenwich Mean Time 16 December 2018

    Henrikh Mkhitaryan (53 mins)

How lucky is that?! Arsenal level, and it's very fortuitous indeed. Poor from Oriol Romeu though who is caught in possession on the edge of his own area, Alexandre Lacazette finds Henrikh Mkhitaryan in space, he shoots hard and low but it's never going to trouble Alex McCarthy until it takes a whacking great deflection off Jannik Vestergaard and trickles almost apologetically over the line.

BtheG: I'm starting to wonder if Iwobi is Emery's favorite boy. I honestly wouldn't start him. He plays better as a substitute.

David Thackeray: Sometimes I despair. Some Gunners "fans" would moan and whinge if we went another 22 games unbeaten. Nobody thought at the start of the season we'd be in this position. Get behind the team instead of carping all the time. I really think some of you hope we lose.

    Brighton 0-2 Chelsea

Solly March gets to the dead ball line and fizzes in a low cross but that's meat and drink for the Chelsea defence. All looking comfortable for the yellows at the moment.

  4. Emery flexibilitypublished at 14:39 Greenwich Mean Time 16 December 2018

    Southampton 2-1 Arsenal

    Danny Mills
Former England defender on BBC Radio 5 live

We were expecting Ainsley Maitland-Niles to come on before half-time. He was stripped, he was ready.

Then against everything we expected, Alexandre Lacazette comes on. I think the substitution shows again Unai Emery's flexibility.

Ricky Nelson: This is what happens when you play a makeshift defence that has literally never played together before - our three first-choice defenders all out and now Bellerin as well.

Eddierocksteady: Arsenal's rotten first-half form this season is undermining their campaign - big-time! First assignment for Emery this January: shore up that leaky defence and get some specialist wingers, ASAP! Delay is dangerous!

    Southampton 2-1 Arsenal

Arsenal mean business here, they've started the half well since going to a back four. A flowing move sees Stephan Lichtsteiner gallop into the area but his cutback is hacked clear.

  7. Postpublished at 14:36 Greenwich Mean Time 16 December 2018

    Brighton 0-2 Chelsea

Eden Hazard is human after all, that's a great chance for a third as a wonderful cross from the right serves up a tap-in for the Belgian - but he misses his connection altogether.

Pedro can't force in the loose ball either. Fine start from the visitors.

  8. Big test for Xhakapublished at 14:35 Greenwich Mean Time 16 December 2018

    Southampton 2-1 Arsenal

    Danny Mills
Former England defender on BBC Radio 5 live

It will be a big test for Granit Xhaka. Nathan Redmond has been pushed further up so maybe Southampton have identified that as a weakness. If Redmond can pick up the ball and start running at Xhaka, maybe it will cause Arsenal some problems.

  9. CLOSE!published at 14:35 Greenwich Mean Time 16 December 2018

    Southampton 2-1 Arsenal

Terrific chance for Arsenal, pretty much straight from kick-off! The Gunners work it neatly, Lucas Torreira flicks it around the corner to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, he's in on goal but can't toe-poke the ball past Alex McCarthy. Decent save!

    Away we go.

  11. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 14:33 Greenwich Mean Time 16 December 2018

    Southampton 2-1 Arsenal

Unai Emery loves a half-time sub. Alexandre Lacazette comes on for Hector Bellerin. Not a straight swap, obvs.

    Back under way at Brighton!

  13. Firmino needs to play higherpublished at 14:30 Greenwich Mean Time 16 December 2018

Liverpool v Man Utd (16:00 GMT)

    Jermaine Jenas
Former England midfielder on Radio 5 live

Liverpool are in an amazing place, they are not quite as free flowing in attack but they are defensively solid.

The goalkeeper Alisson is unbelievable and back four don't give an inch.

With certain players, when they are lacking in confidence they want to go hunting for the ball. Roberto Firmino can play deeper in the middle but you want him high up, turning defenders and flicks in the final third.

He has to be higher up the pitch.

  16. 'You cannot do that'published at 14:26 Greenwich Mean Time 16 December 2018

    Brighton 0-2 Chelsea

    Warren Aspinall
    Ex-Brighton striker on BBC Sussex

It is a poor performance and the retention of the ball has been poor, Albion have given it away too easily. You cannot do that against a good team like Chelsea.

  17. Postpublished at 14:25 Greenwich Mean Time 16 December 2018

Liverpool v Man Utd (16:00 GMT)

    Nigel Reo-Coker
Former West Ham midfielder on BBC Radio 5 live

I don't think Jose Mourinho's approach has changed at any club he's been at. He always tries to be defensively sound and he coaches them on when to press and when not to press.

If Mourinho is going to take that approach, it will take a lot away from the [spectacle]. People might not watch it as much. Manchester City and Liverpool might take over as the big rivalry.

I think it will be 3-1 to Liverpool.

I should point out that Glenn Murray said that on 5 live on Friday night, not as he came off the pitch at Brighton.

  19. 'Best yet to come from Liverpool'published at 14:22 Greenwich Mean Time 16 December 2018

Liverpool v Man Utd (16:00 GMT)

    Glenn Murray
Brighton striker on BBC Radio 5 live

The frightening thing is the best is yet to come from Liverpool.

Manchester United in days gone by, playing them was a terrifying prospect. As we found out earlier in the season, smaller sides now feel like they can get something out of them.

Other teams have improved around them - you have to give credit to Liverpool and Manchester City's recruitment. Liverpool is a good place to be at the moment, Klopp has got it right.

I don't think United will be able to handle Liverpool's legs.

David Ljunggren: I'd love to hear the Arsenal defenders talking to each other. "So what do you reckon, should we mark this Ings bloke? He's already scored once?" Back comes the answer "No, don't bother, he won't do it again"
