  1. WHAT A MISS!published at 15:28 Greenwich Mean Time 30 December 2018

    Burnley 2-0 West Ham

Burnley should be five clear and lighting cigars.

Felipe Anderson gives the ball away in midfield, Burnley spring forward with Ashley Westwood sweeping the ball into the path of Chris Wood.

He is clean through, but pokes wide, when going round the grounded Lukasz Fabianski was the better option.

    Southampton 1-3 Man City

Manchester City might have been told that death by a thousand passes is the way to kill off Southampton.

Sideways tippy-taps have Saints chasing shadows in midfield.

Suddenly Fernandinho gets his head up and flips a lobbed ball into the box, Raheem Sterling is just about muscled out of it as he threatens to latch on.

Southampton can still get something out of this game but they will need to play an error-free 45 minutes and that is not easy when the confidence is low.

  4. GREAT SAVE!published at 15:23 Greenwich Mean Time 30 December 2018

    Burnley 2-0 West Ham

West Ham's defence is showing all the security and solidity of a cat flap.

Chris Wood serves up another prime chance for Ashley Barnes and only a superb save from Lukas Fabianski gets the Hammers off the hook.

Surely a third is brewing for the Clarets?

    Burnley 2-0 West Ham

Chris Wood misses an excellent chance to wrap the match up and write off any hope of any points for West Ham.

The Burnley striker swipes only air as a low cross skims into the box.

Should have done better and his team will hope it doesn't come back to haunt them.

A double change for West Ham as Manuel Pellegrini brings on Andy Carroll and Grady Diangana for Lucas Perez and Robert Snodgrass as he looks for a way back into the game.

We are back underway at Turf Moor.

  9. 'The goal changed the game'published at 15:16 Greenwich Mean Time 30 December 2018

    FT: Crystal Palace 0-1 Chelsea

    Crystal Palace

Asked if his side deserved more from the game, Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson told BBC Match of the Day: “No.

“Our first half performance was very disciplined and Chelsea had a lot of the ball which was likely with so many technical players, but we thought we controlled our efforts in a good way. The goal changed the game and it meant we had to find a way of getting the ball from them. You can do that two ways, by staying tight or by taking risks which can often lead to conceding three or four.

“You have to give them credit but all goals come from mistakes some way or another and the disappointing thing for theirs was that it came from athrow in. We must give Kante credit for his goal and Luiz for the pass. If you want to create goal chances you have got to have the ball which is why we couldn’t create those chances like we did against Cardiff. Today we didn’t play well enough to create many chances.”

Asked if Connor Wickham’s introduction off the bench gave his side greater threat in attack, Hodgson said: “I don’t think so, no.

“January is an opportunity for us and we would like to bring in one or two players that would help us in that area to give us options up front which we are currently lacking in.”

At the top end of the table, Manchester City are on course to reclaim second spot from Tottenham and close to within seven points of Liverpool.

Down at the bottom, three much-needed points would move them above Fulham and only goal difference behind Southampton.

Anon: Shocking defending BUT that was a stonewall penalty on JWP at 1-1. Ref wants a title race.

Phil: If the ref and his linesman can't fathom a clear penalty between them then they should not be involved in the game. Dreadful decision!

Ash: Alex McCarthy is one of the poorest keepers I’ve seen in the Prem league for a while.

I think you are all wrong. There wasn't enough in Zinchenko's challenge to merit a spot-kick and McCarthy made at least two top-quality saves to deny City during their earlier period of dominance.

    Southampton 1-3 Man City

The half-time whistle is greeted with jeers.

The home fans are still harking back to the referee's failure to award a penalty for Oleksandr Zinchenko's challenge on James Ward-Prowse. Since then City have scored two goals in first-half injury time to swing the match their way.

That could be the decisive goal. Sergio Aguero is left completely unmarked and it's a super ball in by Oleksandr Zinchenko. Alex McCarthy won't be pleased when he sees a replay of that, and the goalkeeper should have saved it.

Manchester City have weathered the Southampton storm, ridden their luck and then let their class shine through.

Oleksandr Zinchenko - who has had a torrid first half at the other end - clips in a pin-point cross for the silver-topped head of Sergio Aguero to bury a header past Alex McCarthy.

The slice of luck that Manchester City needed to steady up the ship.

Raheem Sterling's cross deflects off James Ward-Prowse and a startled Alex McCarthy cannot claw it out at the near post.

It is City's full-back Oleksandr Zinchenko who is under the microscope once more.

James Ward-Prowse goes to the deck under his challenge. Was it more than a simple shoulder to shoulder? Paul Tierney says not.
