    Southampton 1-1 Man City

Sergio Aguero snatches at a half-chance just inside the area, the ball trundling closer to the corner flag than the goalposts.

There has been a mood change. Manchester City were all over Saints in the first half-hour. Now, the hosts are looking buoyant and City look less sure.

Femi: I'm sure there was a loud shout in Liverpool for that outstanding Southampton equaliser

Kyle: Sloppy play from Zinchenko. Southampton in the last 10 minutes have been brilliant. Fantastic strike and I wonder if missed chances will cost City yet again.

Viv: Dawdling on the ball again...what was Zinchenko thinking! No lesson learnt!

    Burnley 2-0 West Ham

Burnley should be three clear, home and hosed.

Ashley Barnes' low cross is perfect for Dwight McNeil, but the Burnley man screws his shot wide from two yards.

    A jaw-dropper of a miss.

That is great play by Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg. He doesn't give the Man City players any chance to take liberties on the edge of their box. He heads straight to goal, and I actually thought be was going to pass it to Charlie Austin, but he decided the striker was not needed.

    Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg (37 mins)

    Pigeons meet cat.

City's young full-back Oleksandr Zinchenko fluffs his first touch from Aymeric Laporte's pass and his team's fine margins don't allow for such mistakes.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg rushes him out of possession, advances to the edge of the box and smashes an unstoppable shot past Ederson.

    Dwight McNeil (34 mins)

    It has been coming.

Burnley have been banging on the door in search of a second and finally Ashley Westwood picks the lock.

A lovely curling deep delivery cuts out the West Ham defence and is perfect for Dwight McNeil sliding in on the far post.

Sergio Aguero doesn't get paid the big bucks to defend. Probably just as well.

It has got to be seen to be believed how Ederson casually goes around the Southampton player before passing it on. He can only keep playing like that because he has the confidence of the manager.

    Southampton 0-1 Man City

Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson has to have de-icer for blood he is so cool.

He controls a backpass from fellow Brazilian Danilo, a yard from his own net, looks up, notes the inrushing Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, and sells the Southampton midfielder a dummy.

    Outrageous nerveless stuff.

That is a brilliant save by Alex McCarthy who spreads himself. Sergio Aguero just wants to get a good contact on it but McCarthy's belly stops the ball from going into the goal.

Southampton are down to the last layer of skin on their teeth.

Sergio Aguero turns a low cross goalwards but only into the midriff of the sprawling Alex McCarthy.

The ball breaks loose in the box. Could be anyone's... a red and white shirt wins the race and boots clear.

    Burnley 1-0 West Ham

West Ham are looking very ragged at the back.

It takes a superb sliding block from Angelo Ogbonna to defuse a dangerous situation as Dwight McNeil fires in a shot from the edge of the box while under little pressure.

  14. 'We didn't kill the match'published at 14:39 Greenwich Mean Time 30 December 2018

    FT: Crystal Palace 0-1 Chelsea

    Chelsea

Speaking to BBC Match of the Day, Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri said: "It was a difficult match. I am happy with the team because we dominated for 85 minutes, although we didn’t kill the match, so we had to fight again for the last five minutes."

On Kante's goal, Sarri said: "He is improving with the right timing and good movement and now I think that we have to work on Ross Barkley. We now need continuity because in the last five matches we played very well in three, and badly in two, so now is the moment to have continuity.

"We have to play 19 matches, so other team's results are not important but it is crucial to have continuity. In two days we have had four injuries, with Cesc Fabregas, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Danny Drinkwater, and then today Olivier Giroud. We will have to see how long he is out for."

Manchester City almost act out the perfect lesson in Pep's football philosophy.

Ederson, Oleksandr Zinchenko and Vincent Kompany indulge in some high-wire passing in their own box, picking a route through the Southampton press.

Fernandinho sweeps wide, Riyad Mahrez jags in off the left flank and curls his 20-yard shot...just over the top.

    Chris Wood (15 mins)

Not quite to the joga bonito level of their goal against Everton last season, but a lovely team effort from Burnley.

It starts with Tom Heaton rushing off his line and out the box to nod a searching West Ham throughball to a team-mate.

The hosts sweep upfield via some good work from Dwight McNeil before Ashley Westwood sweeps forward for Ashley Barnes to knock down into the path of Chris Wood, who converts with a powerful first-time finish.

David Silva is down clutching his ankle.

The Southampton defender got the ball, but a fair slice of his man as well. Nothing doing from referee Paul Tierney.

Silva is back up and running after a spot of treatment.
