Rezaa: No defence. No communication. No backbone. No discipline. No Wenger. No change.

Anon: I expected Arsenal to lose but this feels like Wenger's last few seasons. Again very poor, take the lead and shut up for 10 mins not gift four goals.

Ray: There's still too much of Wenger's defensive DNA in this Arsenal team. Unai needs to bring in at least 4 quality defenders over the next 6-8 months. Far too many error-prone, weak characters in that back line

It was reminiscent of Arsenal maybe 10 years ago, wanting to have the perfect goal.

Mane was in a wonderful position and Sokratis had to time his tackle perfectly, otherwise it would have been another penalty.

Xherdan Shaqiri plays another excellent ball with the outside of his boot for Mohamed Salah. It's perfectly placed for the Egyptian to touch it around the keeper and score but Salah's touch lets him down and it's gobbled up by Bernd Leno.

Sadio Mane and Xherdan Shaqiri link-up superbly on the edge of the box and Mane is about to poke it into the back of the net before Sokratis slides in and makes a crucial tackle. A few appeals around Anfield. Looked like a very good tackle though!

  9. Memorable moments in 2018published at 18:30 Greenwich Mean Time 29 December 2018

    Liverpool 4-1 Arsenal

We looked back at some of this year's most memorable moments in football and one which stood out was the day one of the Premier League's greatest managers called it a day at Arsenal.

Roughly a quarter of the population of the UK had never lived in a world without Arsene Wenger as Arsenal boss.

He had a seven-game farewell tour - including a last defeat at Old Trafford and a final European exit - but it all ended with a 1-0 victory at Huddersfield on the last day of the campaign.

Arsenal have conceded four goals in the first half of a Premier League game for the fourth time, with Liverpool responsible for two of those (also Man Utd in Feb 2001 and Chelsea in March 2014).

Francis: If Ozil and Lacazette were playing we could've at least put away our few chances.

Adams: How are Arsenal meant to win this game without no creativity... Don’t let go of Ozil.

Abdul: This game was calling for Ozil, poor lad. I don't know what happened to him.

I might have expected the scoreline at full-time. I certainly didn’t expect it at half-time.

It’s been quite an incredible performance. Every time Liverpool have gone forward they’ve looked dangerous.

They fell asleep a bit at the start and fell 1-0 down, but they just kept on playing and knew what they had to do.

Sokratis has a little yap in Mohamed Salah's ear as the two teams walk off the pitch. The Liverpool forward ignores him but Virgil van Dijk isn't happy and comes running over to stop Sokratis hassling his teammate. Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang drags Sokratis away too.

Of course there was contact. Salah’s making his run inside the box – even inside the six-yard box.

He’s coming across the face of goal and for me it’s a clear penalty.

Salah's kick was straight down the middle but it was a wonderful strike from a wonderful player.
