Darryl Finch: Maybe Jose Mourinho was right when he said, after the defeat at Liverpool, that Manchester United could still finish fourth.

Jed: People say Solksjaer has had it easy - Mourinho left United a disaster area, and Ole had no time to prepare, four matches in quick succession. Amazing.

Lifa Nati: There's a serious lack of quality in that Chelsea team. If Hazard ain't bailing them out, no one is however that Morata goal was onside and the linesman got it all wrong.

    Watford forward Troy Deeney:

"It was an interesting game to be involved in. The defending from both teams was Sunday League at best to be honest. Both teams will look at it as points dropped.

"I didn’t feel we were fully in control. It was an end-to-end game. It could have been 6-6. As entertainers were happy, but not as professionals. The only people that are happy are the fans.

"Abdoulaye Doucoure probably did get lucky [to not be sent-off]. But you can’t tell me that their boy did not try to do Tom Cleverley. They know it. We know but the referee bottled it on a few occasions today."

    FT: Bournemouth 3-3 Watford

Troy Deeney grabbed Watford's first two goals before the frenzy started. His first was a routine header but the second was really nicely worked. Here's the build-up to that goal

Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford to Sky Sports: "They were difficult to break down and it took longer than we would have liked. We had to keep working to get three points.

"I want to improve my finishing."

Romelu Lukaku: "You have to be ready as a sub, that's what the manager asks of me. I knew that the goalkeeper might fumble it, you have to gamble.

"It's totally different with the new manager, we are all learning from him, so far so good."

Lewis Sullivan: Signing Pulisic for the summer is fantastic news, but Chelsea need a striker right now if they're going to get top four

James Ballatyne: If Solskjear can get a clean sheet with Jones in the team then he must be a miracle worker

Rob Gibson: There is no point in a good performance with 2 mistakes and 0 points, all results against us, no money from Ashley, Newcastle in extreme trouble, City next too I believe

    Newcastle 0-2 Man Utd

    Alan Shearer
Former England captain on Radio 5 live

It's been a very professional performance from Manchester United in the second half.

Going forward they will always create chances but defensively, that is where the problem is.

They've picked Newcastle off with ease several times in this second half.

  12. CLOSE!published at 21:52 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January 2019

    Newcastle 0-2 Man Utd

Great counter again, Paul Pogba puts the afterburners on to streak through midfield, Jesse Lingard's through ball is perfectly weighted for the number six, he beats Martin Dubravka to the ball, skips around him but from wide, wide, wide on the right he puts his shot into the side-netting.

A punch of the turf, would have been a brilliant effort.

    Mark Mitchener
    BBC Sport at Vitality Stadium

The sponsors have announced Bournemouth defender Nathan Ake as their man of the match. (It's always a home player, right?)

As the game enters the end of stoppage time, a more deserving candidate from a neutral perspective - if there are any neutrals here - might be Ben Foster, who has shown his England international class to hold the Cherries at bay in the second half.

Tom Cleverley bobbles his way into the box and it bounces up and hits Nathan Ake. Watford are screaming for a penalty. Did it hit his hand? I think it did. But his hand was low...

I've only just seen the Jonjo Shelvey challenge that you've all been talking about - the perils of watching three games at once I'm afraid.

You are all quite right - it was a shocker. Should have been a red card for sure.
