    Tottenham 0-0 Man United

Manchester United clearly have a lot of respect for Tottenham. They're allowing the ball to go wide. They've decided that the least danger is letting the full-backs have the ball. They're trying to stop Tottenham coming through the middle, they're making sure that area's very congested.

United have had a couple of decent counter-attacks. They're being brave, they're leaving three players up front at times. They've got to be careful they don't get caught out with that.

    Tottenham 0-0 Man Utd

Another great minute - Harry Kane has a shot blocked from a corner and then United scream away on the break. Christian Eriksen puts a real shift in to keep up with Marcus Rashford as best as he can and it ends with Anthony Martial to fire over the top.

Just as I say that the three attempt to combine - Son on the left, he finds Dele Alli inside the area and Harry Kane is very close to meeting his cutback.

Alli then wins a corner. Wembley crowd really up.

    Tottenham 0-0 Man Utd

Manchester United's stag do to Dubai seems to have done the trick so far - they've started well and apart from that very good Harry Winks chance Spurs haven't created too much. The hosts are still dominating possession - Harry Kane, Son and Dele Alli have all been pretty quiet though.

Dave Payn: Cracking game so far. I just hope that it isn’t spoiled by a certain official who loves the limelight.

Odel: I love my Spurs, but If they don't score chances like that Winks chance, it will haunt them. It happened to Liverpool in the table-top Clash against City. Mane hitting the post was a real pivotal point. Got to score those.

Johnny Magrinho: Can’t see anything other than a comfortable win for Spurs. They have much more to offer going forward & a far tighter backline. If Solskjaer can lead United to a draw today that will surely have to go down as their best of the season but I just can’t see it happening

A very enjoyable opening 20 minutes then, no goals but the constant undercurrent of a potential goal. Which is all you ask for as a neutral.

    Tottenham 0-0 Man United

Manchester United are trying to stretch the game as much as possible. If anybody picks it up around the halfway line their instant thought is 'can I get Martial, Rashford or Lingard in behind the Tottenham defence?'

Can they exploit a very, very slight weakness, in the discrepancies in pace between those three and the Tottenham centre-halves?

  8. GREAT SAVE!published at 19 mins

    Tottenham 0-0 Man Utd

Brilliant persistence from Anthony Martial as he jags into the area, skins Toby Alderweireld and drills a shot into the shins of the watchful Hugo Lloris. Kieran Trippier was in a different postcode at right-back - it's a dangerous game leaving Martial with that much space...

Robin Peckitt: Terrible from Jesse Lingard! 3 people right next to him in the box to square it to and he takes a shot! Zero intelligence.

Adam Kitchiner: Spurs' tactics seem a bit gung-ho. Leaving themselves open to counter attack.

Ash Williams: This Utd side look better under Solskjaer but still not clinical. They wouldn’t worry the top teams still.

This is everything you want from a clash of two of the big sides - so far. Both teams throwing numbers at the counter attacks, it's the exact opposite of the bus parking which has become the norm in these big games.

I don't know if that's a good thing or not for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's long-term job prospects but it's exciting to watch.

Marcus Rashford is in on goal but he's a gnat's hair offside.

Lingard had a good touch but then snatched at it.

Then the ball for Rashford wasn't quite at the right angle for him, but it was a good counter-attack. Tottenham have got to be careful.

This is SO open! The Spurs corner is cleared away, Nemanja Matic sends Jesse Lingard away and he then finds Anthony Martial. He's sent a bit wide and it comes to nothing.

Lingard might be injured, he's signalling to the bench.

  13. CLOSE!published at 13 mins

    Tottenham 0-0 Man Utd

And now another great chance! For United though. Ashley Young puts over a fine cross from right-back, Toby Alderweireld gets a piece on it but can't clear, it drops to Jesse Lingard but he slices well over the bar.

Seconds later United break away three on three and Marcus Rashford can only shoot straight at Hugo Lloris.

Dare I say it but...that was more like the old Manchester United.

Spurs then win a corner! Brilliant tempo to this.

Referee Mike Dean just letting Ashley Young know he is in charge not him - something which appears to come as a shock to the Manchester United man.

Fabulous play started by Son down the left. Harry Winks came onto it and was in two minds. Shall I shoot? Shall I cross it? And in the end he didn't really do either.

    Tottenham 0-0 Man Utd

Great chance! Christian Eriksen frees Son over the top with a great first-time ball. Phil Jones is eating dust, Son plays in Harry Winks sprinting into the middle, he doesn't quite know whether to shoot or cross and in the end he does neither, putting the ball right across goal.

From the corner it's Winks again who fires over from the edge of the area.

Aleksander: We survived the 10-second mark.

Javel Bleach: Kinda weird for both Liverpool & Man City fans to be willing a Man Utd victory! Or draw at the worst.

Mikey Gear: The time has come, in 90 minutes we will know who the next UNITED manager will be. My money is on OGS.

A nothing ball from Nemanja Matic, just shovelled aimlessly down the field. The Spurs fans enjoyed that one.

Toby Alderweireld then puts the ball out of play himself.
