Marco Giannini: So this is Solksjaer’s first big test apparently. If United are beaten then it’ll be because Solksjaer isn’t a good enough manager. If United win it’ll be because Spurs went all Spursy.

Kyle: I cannot wait for this match. It has all the makings of a classic. I think Spurs will have just too much for United. Jones and Lindelof will struggle to contain Kane, Son, Eriksson and Ali. United have been great of late going forward to 3-1 Spurs.

Michael Devlin: This United line-up looks like a team that could score a couple, but concede a few.

Mike Phelan looks angry already in the first minute. His finest hour as an assistant will always be stamping on the balloon.

Kieran Trippier puts in a fine ball from the right but it's 10% too heavy for Harry Kane at the far post.

  4. Solskjaer faces big testpublished at 16:30 Greenwich Mean Time 13 January 2019

    Phil McNulty
BBC Sport chief football writer at Wembley

We're under way in one of the real high-profile Premier League games and one which represents a big examination for Manchester United interim manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after five wins from five games.

And, providing the sub-plot, he is in opposition to the man many predict will be Manchester United manager next season, Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino.

If Solskjaer can fashion a win here, he will really strengthen his own claims.

Chidexxy: Even though Ole wouldn't admit it, this game could end up becoming more like a job interview, whoever wins, gets the united job, just imagine what a victory in this game would do to the remainder of United's season.

Bobby Seagull: Solskjaer might have "only" beaten Cardiff, Huddersfield, Bournemouth & Newcastle, but the "Special One" Mourinho could "only" draw to Palace & Southampton, whilst losing to Brighton and us Hammers. We'll find out today if OGS is just a flat-track bully.

Red Devil: Phil Jones in defence! May as well play with 10 men and give other team 2-0 advantage!

    FT: Everton 2-0 Bournemouth

    Leon Osman
Former Everton midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

Bournemouth can play some wonderful football, through Brooks, Stanislas, Fraser, King - and that's without Callum Wilson being available today. They really did dominate the game for 25 minutes.

But you can't perform that well for a third of the game and expect to come away with anything. Until they can figure out how to perform for 90 minutes they're always going to be a bit of a soft touch.

Ademola Lookman looked fantastic at Charlton and Leipzig but hasn't quite shown Evertonians what he's capable of. He's huffed and puffed at times when he's come on, but today he did not disappoint.

He got on the ball as much as he could, he tried to make something happen every time he had the ball and his work-rate, there were questions about whether he'd work back and be part of the team, whether he'd help his team get over the line, and he did that and more today. He was fantastic.

    Everton

Everton defender Kurt Zouma told Sky Sports: "I am happy to score my first goal for the club but we need to keep working hard and playing like that now."

On his celebration: "I went to the manager because he wants me to score more than last season. Bournemouth were pushing hard at the end but we stayed compact and we did very well."

  17. 'Huge win'published at 16:19 Greenwich Mean Time 13 January 2019

    FT: Everton 2-0 Bournemouth

    Everton

Speaking to Sky Sports Everton defender Michael Keane said: "It’s a huge win. We have obviously had a few difficult results at home over Christmas so we are pleased to keep a clean sheet. It was a slow start but we grew into the game and the result is what we needed."

On Ademola Lookman's performance: "He has got everything. He is the most skillful player at the club along with Bernard. He can go both ways and he can score goals and he is young so he is only going to get better. If he can get consistency every time and keep learning, he will be a great player."

That's why I felt the three points were so important today. It really sends a message about which end of the league you want to challenge at.

Twenty minutes in, Bournemouth should have had them wrapped up, but after that Everton grew into it and second half they came out and dominated the game.

Bournemouth had an opportunity in the last 15 minutes, trying to push Everton on the back foot, but a special mention for Ademola Lookman. He's been waiting for his opportunity to come into the team and he took it today. It was fantastic work to set up the second goal and a very important win for Everton.

Everton are now 10th, Bournemouth 12th. In a little league of their own those few teams in midfield, or should Bournemouth have half an eye on relegation still?

  20. 'Finish that mate'published at 16:13 Greenwich Mean Time 13 January 2019

    Everton 2-0 Bournemouth

Former Everton midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

Dominic Calvert-Lewin is getting the applause but the second goal was all about Ademola Lookman. From winning the ball back with a sliding tackle after he'd just given it away, to getting up and attacking the Bournemouth back four.

When he got as far as he felt he could go he slid a pass right into Dominic Calvert-Lewin and said 'go on, finish that mate', and he did. He passed it into that front post past Begovic to clinch the game for Everton.
