  2. Hearts 'have our ambitions' - Ikpeazupublished at 18:13 British Summer Time 25 August 2018

    FT: Kilmarnock 0-1 Hearts

Hearts match-winner Uche Ikpeazu endorsed manager Craig Levein's view that the Premiership leaders deserved their 1-0 victory at Kilmarnock, which lifts them four points clear at the top, pending Sunday's two games involving Rangers and Celtic.

"I think we were the better team and we are buzzing with the victory," Ikpeazu told BBC Scotland.

"It was tough. We knew it is a difficult place to come, Kilmarnock. It was physical but we stuck at it, worked hard and got the win, which is the most important thing, and a clean sheet.

"We have our ambitions. I'm not saying we can't win the title, but we have got off to a great start, and long may it continue."

  3. 'It's important you get the first win' - Wrightpublished at 18:10 British Summer Time 25 August 2018

    FT: St Johnstone 1-0 Dundee

St Johnstone manager Tommy Wright was "really pleased to get his first league win of the season, really pleased with the performance" after their 1-0 win over Dundee.

"At times Dundee had a lot of possession but were not really hurting us," he told BBC Scotland.

"I've been here over five years and it's important you get that first win. In the second half we had more control of the game and fully deserved it."

  4. 'We've been done by a mistake' - McCannpublished at 18:06 British Summer Time 25 August 2018

    FT: St Johnstone 1-0 Dundee

Dundee manager Neil McCann bemoaned another costly error as his sid remain without a point after a 1-0 defeat at St Johnstone.

"It's yet another game we've lost by the odd goal and been punished for a mistake," he told BBC Radio Scotland. "That's three league games in a row we've been done by that.

"There is a lack of confidence because we're not taking chances but we need to keep a clean sheet - we're not pinning blame on any one part of the team.

"There are positives to take but ultimately I share the disappointment of the fans, going away with nothing to show for a lot of good play."

  5. St Mirren 'shot themselves in the foot' - Stubbspublished at 17:56 British Summer Time 25 August 2018

    FT: St Mirren 0-2 Livingston

St Mirren manager Alan Stubbs took 45 minutes before he appeared outside the home dressing room in Paisley to speak to the media.

Here's what he had to say to our BBC Scotland man at the Simple Ditial Arena, John Barnes.

"We just had a talk with them about defending set-plays," Stubbs told BBc Scotland. "We knew what Livingston were going to throw at us today.

"We've shot ourselves in the foot by conceding two goals.

"I think maybe there's an element of [people switching off] but it's about a bit of desire to go and win the ball.

"They've then created two goals from set-pieces and it puts people on the back foot."

  6. Two points dropped for Hibs - Lennonpublished at 17:40 British Summer Time 25 August 2018

    FT: Hibernian 1-1 Aberdeen

Hibernian head coach Neil Lennon is frustrated with only a draw against Aberdeen, despite Jamie Maclaren's late equaliser earning his side a point.

He tells BBC Scotland: "I'm happy with the performance. I'm really unhappy with the goal we conceded from a set-play. It's criminal from our point of view knowing how strong Aberdeen are at set-plays. It's just scandalous that someone could be free in our box three yards out.

"A draw was the least we deserved, and I feel it's two points dropped today. That cost us a little bit last year and we've got to start turning the dominance that we have in games into wins.

"It's still very early. We've got five points out of nine which is alright, but the performances have merited more."

Lennon also says some players may need to leave, saying he "needs to trim the squad in certain areas", but is looking to sign "one or two" before Friday's transfer deadline.

Asked about the two penalty incidents in the match, he said both sides "probably" should have had spot-kicks. "I'm the last one to be commenting on referees at this stage of the season - I'm just back in the dug-out."

  7. Smiling assassins Livi give Holt 'perfect' startpublished at 17:33 British Summer Time 25 August 2018

    FT: St Mirren 0-2 Livingston

Livingston manager Gary Holt hailed a "perfect start" to his Livingston tenure after a 2-0 win at St Mirren lifted the promoted side up to sixth, ahead of Sunday's two matches.

"It's a better start than I had when I was at Falkirk and I was 3-0 up at half-time in a Scottish Cup semi-final and lost 4-3 after extra-time, so I had the highs and lows of that," he told BBC Scotland.

“To get a win in your first game is what you want, to see the boys trying to implement the wee things you have asked them to do and carrying on the good work we’ve done already is really pleasing.

“I asked them to play with a smile and enjoy your work because that’s what it is – work. It’s football but it’s your work. Enjoy it and play with a smile. I thought we got that today."

  8. Dons denied 'stone-wall penalty' - McInnespublished at 17:28 British Summer Time 25 August 2018

    FT: Hibernian 1-1 Aberdeen

Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes feels the decision of referee Andrew Dallas not to award the visitors a first-half penalty cost his side.

McInnes told BBC Scotland: "When you come to a place like this and get yourselves 1-0 up, with the experience we've got I expect us to see the game out.

"The difficult thing for me is we should have a stone-wall penalty and the referee is in such a brilliant position to see it. He just abdicates responsibility for giving the penalty. There's no doubt in my mind it's a penalty-kick when [Lewis] Ferguson is brought down.

"Hibs had a lot of territory but we limited them to shots from distance. I'm disappointed we haven't won the game and very disappointed with the penalty that wasn't given."

  9. Hearts deserved win - Leveinpublished at 17:24 British Summer Time 25 August 2018

    FT: Kilmarnock 0-1 Hearts

Hearts manager Craig Levein on BBC Scotland: "We deserved to win the match. All credit to the boys, they kept going.

"There weren't a lot of chances in the match. I felt we dominated the match in the first half. Second half, we had more of the ball, obviously because of the sending-off, and we had more chances.

"Uche Ikpeazu loves celebrating goals, he loves scoring goals. He wasn't at his best last week but certainly he was back to his best today."

    FT: St Johnstone 1-0 Dundee

    Michael Stewart
Former Scotland midfielder on BBC Sportsound

Dundee play some good stuff up until the final third. They’re passing it around, they’re trying to do the right thing, but as soon as they get to the final third they look completely clueless as to how they’re going to open a team up. It’s a worrying time and I don’t really see how or where things are going to change.

Confidence - that was the difference between these sides today.

Both created chances, but while Dundee couldn’t buy a goal, St Johnstone proved clinical at the crucial time, with Tony Watt's fifth goal of the season proving decisive.

  20. FULL-TIME - St Johnstone 1-0 Dundeepublished at 16:50 British Summer Time 25 August 2018

Tony Watt's fifth goal of the season consigns Dundee to a third consecutive Scottish Premiership defeat. The former Celtic striker cantered through on goal and slotted his 51st-minute shot under Jack Hamilton. The visitors had created several good chances, with Adil Nabi and Benjamin Kallman going close.

Replacement Sofien Moussa had a brilliant late chance with a free header from six yards out, but directed his effort straight at Saints goalkeeper Zander Clark.

Dundee remain without a league point and have scored only one goal this term.
