With the Edinburgh Festival drawing to a close this weekend, let's hope that two of the country's top teams last season put on a show to entertain the crowd of around 18,000 here.

The Dons always travel in good numbers and have sold out their allocation. With manager Derek McInnes keeping faith with the team that tore St Mirren apart last week, they will once again be looking for their heroes to put on a show.

Hibernian also like to play quick attacking football that pleases the crowds and with manager Neil Lennon back in the dugout after serving his ban, his players will know that nothing other than their best will be good enough as they take on last season's second place side.

  4. Dundee bidding to move up the gearspublished at 14:59 British Summer Time 25 August 2018

    St Johnstone v Dundee (15:00)

Dundee manager Neil McCann on BBC Radio Scotland: "We’ve got boys on the bench who can maybe argue they deserved to stay in the team but I’m looking for a squad that are going to be challenging all the time and it’s up to me if I want to rotate it.

"We’ve moved on from the Ayr defeat very quickly. It’s not the type of game you want to linger on. It’s important to point out where we went wrong but we had to put it to the back of our minds.

"Our training this week has been really good, high-tempo, we’ve been solely focused on the match and we’ve picked a side that can hopefully win it.

"A win would be really helpful because it reinforces what you've been doing, but we're so early in the season and all trying to hit high gear. I'm hoping we hit a higher gear today."

  5. Holt just 'delighted' to be backpublished at 14:59 British Summer Time 25 August 2018

    St Mirren v Livingston (15:00)

New Livingston head coach Gary Holt is short of main strikers for his first match in charge. With Kenny Miller having left the club, another experienced striker, Lee Miller, is injured so teenager Jack Hamilton makes his first league start.

Steven Saunders is also injured, so Rickie Lamie gets a start.

Holty tells BBC Scotland that losing out on the role earlier this summer did not make eventually getting the job difficult.

"I believe in not burning bridges," he said. "I was disappointed I didn't get it. To get the chance again is bittersweet - I'm just delighted to be back working.

"Me and (assistant maanger) Davie [Martindale] have hit it off really well. We're similar types of people - a spade's a spade, that's how it is. I'm more than happy with what's here."

Holt also gave his thoughts on the Hampden v Murrayfield debate, saying: "I'm a Hampden man all day long. It is our national stadium, our pride and joy."

  6. Souttar 'ready' for Scotland - Leveinpublished at 14:55 British Summer Time 25 August 2018

    Kilmarnock v Hearts (15:00)

Hearts manager Craig Levein: "I think John Souttar's ready. I think he's improved season on season since he's come to Hearts. Hopefully, he's in the Scotland squad (announced on Monday).

"I'm still a bit hesitant to say we're up and running and up to full steam because I don't think we are. I'm looking to bring another striker in.

"I prefer to play on grass. The newer plastic pitches are better for sure than the older ones. We were at Hamilton a couple of weeks ago and I felt that played well.

"This is what's down here today so we'll play on it. Steve Clarke's done a wonderful job at Kilmarnock. They're very well organised and difficult to break down. They're very competitive. We're hopeful with the form that we're in that we can get the three points."

    St Mirren v Livingston (15:00)

    John Barnes
    BBC Scotland in Paisley

It’s only match number three of the Premiership but Livingston already have their second manager of the season. Gary Holt has taken over from the departed Kenny Miller at the West Lothian club as they look for their first win back in the top flight.

This is the first ever Premiership meeting of St Mirren and Livingston - they have never been in the top division of Scottish football at the same time.

Last season, as they earned promotion from the Championship, they met on five occasions - four in the league and one in the League Cup which Livingston won by a solitary goal. Saints won two of the league encounters to Livi’s one, while the other was drawn.

  8. Clarke not drawn on Stewart rumourspublished at 14:48 British Summer Time 25 August 2018

Kilmarnock v Heart of Midlothian (15:00)

Kilmarnock manager Steve Clarke gives BBC Scotland a polite 'no comment' to rumours he is interested in former Dundee and Aberdeen forward Greg Stewart, who is at Birmingham City.

"We are working the market as hard as we can but I'm happy with the squad we've got," he says. "I'm looking to add quality rather than quantity"

Clarke is no doubt as to the challenge awaiting his side this afternoon.

"I never wake up in the morning thinking 'oh great, it's going to be an easy game'. That's the beauty of the league," he added.

"It'll be a tough afternoon but we think we're ready for it.

"We've started okay. You're just trying to gauge where you are just now."

  9. John Souttar - family tree updatepublished at 14:45 British Summer Time 25 August 2018

    Kilmarnock v Hearts (15:00)

    Jonathan Sutherland
BBC Sport Scotland at Rugby Park

Hearts boss Craig Levein was in mischievous form this week when he said John Souttar, who has so far been restricted to Scotland Under-21 caps, had an Australian granny.

He's just clarified though that Souttar actually has an Australian mother.

Does this make it more pressing for Souttar to get called into the Scotland set-up? Slight tongue in cheek from Levein about all this, but interesting to see if Souttar gets the call when Alex McLeish names his senior squad on Monday to face Belgium and Albania.

We've been asking you whether you are in favour of the national stadium being moved to Murrayfield, or you wish the SFA to continue staging Scotland matches and cup finals at Hampden.

Stuart McKinnell: Hampden needs the ends moved in closer the pitch and the train links improved when matches are on. Murrayfield the stands are too far from the pitch as well but it has better transport links and is in the capital city.

Robert Anderson: Hampden is soulless. Murrayfield all day long - more places to get a drink, transport links better.

Margaret Dunn: Hampden, why would you take money out of football and give to to rugby? Also what would happen to Queens Park?

Billy Auld: Murrayfield is a class above Hampden. Its bigger and it's in the capital city. No brainer.

Mark Hay: The view at Murrayfield is just as far away from the pitch as it is at Hampden.

Duncan Campbell: Hampden is a dreadful stadium. If they were to stay there then it needs redeveloped.

Darren Whyman: National stadium should always be in the country's capital. Hampden is out dated and horrific for atmosphere as you are so far away from the pitch. As an Englishman living in Scotland I think you will benefit better if you relocate to Murrayfield.

  11. Why doesn't it always rain on Elgin?published at 14:39 British Summer Time 25 August 2018

    Postponed: Elgin City v Cowdenbeath

A quick update for Elgin City and Cowdenbeath fans, after today's League Two match was called off due to the condition of the pitch.

Elgin City chairman Graham Tatters has told BBC Scotland that because there has been no rain for nine weeks, a section of the pitch has become dry.

"It's an issue with the top-left corner of the pitch," he said.

"There's no real growth with the grass there going brown. There's bits of gravel there, too.

"It's a worry as we have other home games coming up. It's a nightmare as we have people here for the game, but the referee has made his decision."

  12. Four changes for troubled Deespublished at 14:36 British Summer Time 25 August 2018

    St Johnstone v Dundee (15:00)

Dundee boss Neil McCann names a line-up that features four changes from last weekend's League Cup loss to Ayr United, as the Dens Park club seek their first Premiership points of the season.

Out go Genseric Kusunga, Lewis Spence, Craig Wighton and Elton Ngwatala. They are replaced by Nathan Ralph, Steven Caulker, Glen Kamara and Benjamin Kallman, who makes his first start for the club.

Saints counterpart Tommy Wright makes only one alteration to the starting XI that beat Queen of the South in extra-time, with David McMillan replacing Blair Alston.

  13. Agyepong and Wilson made to wait for debutspublished at 14:35 British Summer Time 25 August 2018

    Hibernian v Aberdeen (15:00)

    Hibernian line-up

Hibs make three changes from their League Cup win over Ross County last Sunday.

Adam Bodgan, Steven Whittaker and Paul Hanlon return in place of Ross Laidlaw, Scott Martin and Emerson Hyndman. New signing Thomas Agyepong is on the bench.

Aberdeen make just one change from the win over St Mirren. The injured Scott Wright drops out, with Tommie Hoban starting. Shay Logan and new striker James Wilson are available, but both have to make do with a place on the bench.

  14. GAME OFF at Elginpublished at 14:33 British Summer Time 25 August 2018

    Elgin City v Cowdenbeath

Elgin City are the third unbeaten side in League Two, but their match with Cowdenbeath won't go ahead today.

Apparently the referee has deemed the pitch at Boroughbriggs not in a fit condition to host the game. More details on that to follow.

  15. Scottish League One and Two fixturespublished at 14:30 British Summer Time 25 August 2018

Arbroath are the early leaders in League One, unbeaten in their first three games. They travel to East Fife today, while Peterhead, who are at Stirling Albion, and Annan Athletic, who are at Berwick Rangers, can consolidate their good starts in League Two.

  16. Scottish Championship - County aim to maintain flying startpublished at 14:26 British Summer Time 25 August 2018

It's not all about the Premiership today of course. There are full programmes in the Championship, where leaders Ross County aim to maintain one of only two 100% records across the four divisions at Greenock Morton, and Leagues One and Two.

Earlier today a coach carrying County fans collided with a motorbike on the A9 near Dunkeld in Perthshire.

The Highlands club posted a message on social media earlier saying no fans were apparently injured, but were returning home.

  17. Dunne handed debut for Heartspublished at 14:17 British Summer Time 25 August 2018

    Kilmarnock v Hearts (15:00)

    Jonathan Sutherland
BBC Sport Scotland at Rugby Park

Hearts start with new on-loan Burnley defender Jimmy Dunne, who’s arrived on loan from Burnley. He’ll partner John Souttar in central defence.

It’s been a fantastic start to the season for Craig Levein’s side - six wins out of seven competitive matches, plus a draw in the League Cup with Raith, which Hearts then won on penalties.

It’s not been a bad start for Kilmarnock either, who have won four of their competitive matches so far this season.

It might also be worth keeping an eye out for Greg Stewart in the stands. I understand there have been talks that could lead to the Birmingham City player coming to Rugby Park on loan.

Killie make two changes with Jamie MacDonald returning in goal in place of Daniel Bachmann while Eamonn Brophy drops to the bench as Mikael Ndjoli starts.

Dunne's inclusion is one of two changes to the Hearts line-up with Callumn Morrison also coming in. Steven MacLean drops to the bench while Aaron Hughes is not in the squad as Hearts play their first match since Kyle Lafferty's departure to Rangers.

Next week the SFA are expected to make a decision on whether to stay at Hampden or move to Murrayfield.

We're asking fans whether they back a move to Murrayfield, or wish to stay at Hampden.

Davie holt: The only sensible choice is Murrayfield. Bigger, better sight lines, better transport links/ parking, better seat rake, better experience.

Alan Macintyre: I live in Edinburgh, but Hampden every day of the week for me.

Clint Dixon: Hampden. Always. From a random Australian who loves Scottish fitba.

FHT: Murrayfield out scores Hampden on everything. If Murrayfield was in Glasgow there wouldn’t be a debate. Poor show if Hampden is selected for all the wrong reasons.

Foshtown: If Murrayfield was a better stadium for football, aye. But it's not it's terrible. Stands are miles from the pitch.
