    Coventry 0-1 Sunderland

Coventry go straight up the other end and Jonson Clarke-Harris shoots at Jon McLaughlin, who can only parry behind for a corner.

The set-piece fizzles out and now Sunderland are streaming forward...

    Coventry 0-1 Sunderland

The ball falls to Lee Cattermole about 30 yards from goal, prompting the visiting supporters - crammed in behind that goal - to bellow a collective "shoooooooot".

Instead, he opts to slide in Lynden Gooch, who fires an effort low and straight at Lee Burge.

  3. Postpublished at 60 mins

    Coventry 0-1 Sunderland

Josh Maja nearly gets clear down the left as Sunderland try to mount a counter-attack but the ball just about runs out of play.

Having had 0-0 written all over it at half-time, I'd be amazed if this stays 1-0.

  4. Postpublished at 58 mins

    Coventry 0-1 Sunderland

It's worth saying, as well, that after more than 220 appearances for the club Lee Cattermole has now doubled his Sunderland goal tally in the space of six matches.

After scoring twice against AFC Wimbledon at the end of August, he's grabbed his sixth Black Cats goal this afternoon.

  5. Postpublished at 57 mins

    Coventry 0-1 Sunderland

I can't even do justice to how much this match has transformed since the break.

It's wave after Coventry City wave at the moment. Their fans are responding, too, but still they trail.

    Coventry 0-1 Sunderland

Another Coventry chance, but another chance wasted!

This time Conor Chaplin is the guilty party, skewing a horrible left-footed attempt hopelessly wide of the target when he was completely unmarked about 15 yards from goal.

He simple has to hit the target from there.

  7. Postpublished at 53 mins

    Coventry 0-1 Sunderland

And now Luke Thomas attempts a powerful header towards goal, which Jon McLaughlin again does well to claim.

This match is entirely unrecognisable to the one we were treated to before half-time.

  8. Postpublished at 51 mins

    Coventry 0-1 Sunderland

It's a good response from Coventry, mind you!

Tom Bayliss latches on to a second-phase ball and slams a low shot towards the corner, which goalkeeper Jon McLaughlin does brilliantly to palm away.

As it happens, a Sky Blues player was offside and it wouldn't have counted, but it does seem we've got a game on our hands at last.

What a start to the second half!

It's ridiculously simple for Sunderland, who work the ball down the right before getting a low cross to the far post, where Lee Cattermole is prowling unmarked to side-foot into the corner of the net.

I couldn't even tell you what he was doing that far forward - isn't he supposed to be a defensive midfielder?

  13. Pressure remains on Bruce despite drawpublished at 13:35 British Summer Time 29 September 2018

FT: Bristol City 1-1 Aston Villa

Aston Villa fought back to earn a point at Bristol City, but Steve Bruce's side have now won only one of their past eight Championship games.

Villa boss Bruce was barracked by a section of home supporters following a home defeat by Sheffield Wednesday in their previous outing, and further shouts calling for his dismissal could be heard in the closing seconds at Ashton Gate.

Josh Brownhill's low 25-yard shot wrong-footed Villa goalkeeper Orjan Nyland to put Bristol City in front, but Villa drew level just before the interval.

    FT: Sheff Wed 1-1 Leeds

Sheffield Wednesday and Championship leaders Leeds United both scored spectacular goals to share the points in an entertaining Yorkshire derby at Hillsborough.

Adam Reach gave the Owls the lead in outrageous fashion with an incredible dipping volley from long range.

After the break, Leeds levelled when Mateusz Klich found the net with an impressive strike from distance.

While we pause for breath at the Ricoh Arena, it's worth reminding you that this round of English Football League fixtures is already two matches old.

Here's what you might've missed in the Championship last night...

  16. HALF-TIMEpublished at 45+9 mins

    Coventry 0-0 Sunderland

Seven of the previous 38 competitive meetings between these two teams have ended goalless. That feels like quite a high ratio to me, no?

Nonetheless, with only one shot on target in the first half we could be heading for much the same today.

It's 0-0 at the Ricoh Arena.

  17. Postpublished at 45+6 mins

... But Tom Flanagan's header from the inswinging delivery is directed straight into the arms of Lee Burge. As you were.

  18. Postpublished at 45+5 mins

    Coventry 0-0 Sunderland

Sunderland aren't quite done, though, as Josh Maja and Bryan Oviedo combine to win a corner...

  19. Postpublished at 45+3 mins

    Coventry 0-0 Sunderland

The near-post cross, which is easily cleared, rather sums up this opening period. Jack Baldwin's long, aimless clearance under no pressure whatsoever in the aftermath isn't much better, either.

Shall we just call it half-time and start again in 15 minutes?

  20. Postpublished at 45+2 mins

    Coventry 0-0 Sunderland

Jonson Clarke-Harris of Coventry CityImage source, Rex Features

Having earlier withstood some heavy Sunderland pressure, it's the hosts who appear to be ending the half the strong.

Jonson Clarke-Harris wins a free-kick wide right after a foul by Jack Baldwin.
