    League One & Two preview

    Kenny JackettImage source, Rex Features

Unbeaten Portsmouth go into today's fixtures three points clear at the top of League One and Kenny Jackett's side will be hopeful of stretching that lead with what appears on paper to be an eminently winnable home game against third-from-bottom Gillingham.

Second-placed Peterborough host Barnsley in the game of the day in the third tier.

League Two leaders Lincoln, who lost at Tranmere on Tuesday, are back on home soil today against Crewe.

Exeter and Newport, who start two points behind the Imps, have away games at Yeovil and Forest Green respectively.

  15. Canaries swooping up tablepublished at 14:55 British Summer Time 6 October 2018

Norwich City v Stoke City (15:00 BST)

    HernandezImage source, Rex Features

Norwich are unbeaten in six league matches as they prepare to host Stoke.

Daniel Farke's side last tasted a Championship defeat at the end of August against leaders Leeds and are now motoring towards the top two.

But Stoke are beginning to show signs that they might live up to the pre-season hype from pundits aplenty after a battling 2-2 draw at Rotherham last Saturday and a 2-0 home win against Bolton on Tuesday.

Boss Gary Rowett also seems to enjoy meetings against Norwich and is unbeaten in his past four Championship encounters against the Canaries.

  16. Swansea bringing sexy backpublished at 14:54 British Summer Time 6 October 2018

Swansea City v Ipswich Town (15:00 BST)

It certainly sounds like Swansea City chairman Huw Jenkins is enjoying the brand of football the Swans are playing under manager Graham Potter.

"Graham has settled into his job at Swansea City with ease and has already shown he can get the team playing the sexy, winning football we had become used to watching over many years," he wrote in his column in the matchday programme.

  17. Swans song for Ipswich's Hurst?published at 14:53 British Summer Time 6 October 2018

Swansea City v Ipswich Town (15:00 BST)

    Paul HurstImage source, Getty Images

As already mentioned, Ipswich manager Paul Hurst is a man in need of a win as he takes his side to south Wales and Swansea's Liberty Stadium.

Hurst is yet to taste victory in any competition since he swapped Shrewsbury for Ipswich in the summer and there were few positives to take from a 2-0 defeat by Middlesbrough on Tuesday.

Will Graham Potter be the man to put the boot in?

Potter's Swans well and truly have the wood on their visitors before this one with Ipswich's last league win against Swansea coming almost 36 years ago when goals from Russell Osman, George Burley and John Wark gave the Tractor Boys a 3-1 win in November 1982.

  18. Blades looking sharp for four in a rowpublished at 14:51 British Summer Time 6 October 2018

Sheffield United v Hull City (15:00 BST)

    Billy SharpImage source, PA

Also with designs on top spot are Sheffield United, who come into their meeting with Hull City at Bramall Lane on the back of three straight wins.

The Blades have also won seven from nine after back-to-back defeats in their two opening Championship matches.

Hull have happy memories of the Steel City already this season having beaten Sheffield United on penalties in the Carabao Cup first round in August.

Former Blades boss Nigel Adkins will be bidding to get one over his old employers to end a run of four matches without a win and pull themselves away from the bottom three.

  19. Karanka calling!published at 14:49 British Summer Time 6 October 2018

Middlesbrough v Nottingham Forest (15:00 BST)

    Aitor KarankaImage source, Getty Images

Middlesbrough have also flirted with top spot in the Championship in recent weeks and this afternoon Nottingham Forest provide the latest test of Tony Pulis' squad.

Forest are unbeaten in their past five league matches and sit just a point off the play-off places.

There's some strange symmetry for Forest boss Aitor Karanka as he bids to mastermind an away win - Middlesbrough have lost one of their past 13 home league matches against Forest (W4 D8).

What's more, that defeat in January 2016 came when they were managed by.......Aitor Karanka.

  20. Baggies bid to keep up the boingpublished at 14:47 British Summer Time 6 October 2018

West Brom v Reading (15:00 BST)

    Darren MooreImage source, Getty Images

West Brom may have slipped off the Championship's top spot in midweek, but their two late goals at Sheffield Wednesday in the 2-2 draw ensured Darren Moore's side extended their unbeaten run to six matches.

The Baggies have a chance of going back to the summit this afternoon and face Reading side still struggling for form and consistency.

Manager Paul Clement admitted after Tuesday's 1-0 defeat by QPR that he got his team selection wrong.

The Hawthorns is far from a happy hunting ground for the Royals having lost eight of their past nine league matches there - their last win came in February 1988, a 1-0 victory.
