  1. Good nightpublished at 22:42 British Summer Time 20 September 2018

    That's all from me folks.

It turned out to be a very good evening for both Celtic and Rangers, although there were a few sticky moments along the way.

A welcome start to the Europa League campaign, with the promise of lots more drama to come over the next few months.

We'll be back with all of the Scottish Premiership action over the weekend. Join us then.

  2. 'I know I can rely on Griffiths' - Rodgerspublished at 22:39 British Summer Time 20 September 2018

    FT: Celtic 1-0 Rosenborg

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers was full of praise for match-winner Leigh Griffiths in his post-match media conference.

"We know Leigh can score goals so you fancy him in a game like that, that if there’s a chance he can take it. We need that in the team," he said.

"I love working with him. He's vital to this club here and this squad. He's got that hunger. It's him realising as well at 28 that when you're at the biggest clubs, you have to fight, and he does that.

"I know that whether he plays or whether I bring him on, we have a chance to score.

"The modern-day striker is about much more than putting the ball in the net. The game has moved on and you have to participate in it tactically and understand how you're working defensively and what your role is with and without the ball.

"That's something hopefully he'll tell you he's developed over the last two years.

"He's got this in-built brain to deal with all this. A lot of players, whatever happens in their world can be a real distraction. He learns to deal with it. I know I can rely on him."

  4. 'We found a way to win' - Rodgerspublished at 22:33 British Summer Time 20 September 2018

    FT: Celtic 0-0 Rosenborg

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers was pleased his team "found a way to win" despite not being "at the top of our game".

"It was a great win in relation to our spirit, persistence to keep going to the very end," he said.

"Five clean sheets in a row as well, which is good, didn’t have a shot on target against us.

"I understand it [the frustration] with the supporters. They’ve been used to the team being a bit more dynamic and faster and better in our attacking moments. At the moment, too many passes going back.

"But it’ll come and we’ll find the solutions. It’s very important you continue to win and to get a 1-0 in the opening European game, it’s a very important three points for us."

  5. Griffiths 'buzzing' at impactpublished at 22:26 British Summer Time 20 September 2018

    FT: Celtic 1-0 Rosenborg

Leigh Griffiths is delighted to have won the game for Celtic despite starting on the bench.

"I'm buzzing," the striker tells BBC Scotland. "I wanted to come on and make an impact and the gaffer said, when we make chances, make sure you are in the box because one will fall to you and I managed to put it away.

"Obviously I'd like to play longer, but it is entirely up to the manager what he wants to do.

"I am happy to come off the bench, make an impact and get the three points for the team."

    FT: Villarreal 2-2 Rangers

Steven Gerrard says he is proud of the way his Rangers players responded to his half-time call to show greater belief before coming from behind to draw 2-2 in Villarreal.

"We are a good team when we show it, when we believe and when we go for the jugular," the manager told Rangers TV. "We can create chances against anyone.

"We have unbelievable quality. The big message is watch the second half tonight and start believing you are a very good team.

"It is a fantastic result. I asked them at half-time to just show a little bit more belief and confidence once we enter the final third."

Gerrard thought it was up there with his side's best performances since he took charge in the summer considering the strength of the opposition.

"We told them before the game, we are capable of hurting Villarreal and the other teams in the group," he said.

"To come here and put a point on the board, I'd have certainly taken it before the game. This, on paper, is probably the toughest test for us in the group."

A huge chance. Kieran Tierney gets past the full-back and you're just expecting the left foot of Leigh Griffiths to wrap around it. To be fair to Mikey Johnston, he's made a very good run and filled the penalty-spot area, but sticks it over the crossbar.

  19. CLOSE!published at 80 mins
