  1. CLOSE!published at 49 mins

    Villarreal 1-0 Rangers

Carlos Bacca scored a screamer early in the first half but he's just missed a glorious chance to make it 2-0.

Allan McGregor does well to race from his area and clear at the feet of Karl Toko Ekambi but the ball goes straight to the goalscorer, who can only send a casual shot wide of an empty net from 20 yards.

    Bad miss...

  4. Rosenborg ready to take riskspublished at 18:55 British Summer Time 20 September 2018

    Rosenborg v Celtic (20:00)

Rosenborg have only won one of their eight meetings with Celtic - three of their five defeats coming in Glasgow, where they have drawn once.

Denmark midfielder Mike Jenson thinks the Troll Children have a better chance of success this time round.

"I expect it will be a bit like the previous match," the Norwegian side's 30-year-old captain said. "Celtic will probably have the ball more than us, but we hope to prevent them from having it in dangerous areas - and avoid simple mistakes.

"It's not been so long since we were here last, but we have had a very good period after that match and we hope we can perform better than we did last time.

"This time, we play for points and not to bring us a good starting point for the return leg.

"We may be able to risk a little more and must hunt a goal."

  5. Tierney tunes up for Europapublished at 18:52 British Summer Time 20 September 2018

    Celtic v Rosenborg (20:00)

Left-back Kieran Tierney has put Celtic's failure to reach the Champions League group stage so far out of his mind that he avoided seeing what might have been on TV.

"I didn't watch it," he said. "I was at the Celtic Musical and it was brilliant actually for anybody that wants to go. I would recommend that. What a night."

Celtic dropped into the Europa League and the 21-year-old insists it is a competition that still motivates.

"The Europa League is another great tournament," he said. "It's a huge honour to represent Celtic.

"I heard the gaffer saying 10 points can usually get you through. The aim is to win all your home games and pick up what you can away."

Rangers can’t argue with the scoreline and the way things stand it’s difficult to see them taking anything from the match. Kyle Lafferty has been largely isolated up front. The crosses into the box when Rangers have got forward haven’t been good enough. Villarreal also look like they could go up a gear or two if they had to. Big half-time team-talk coming up for Steven Gerrard.

The one encouraging aspect of the evening for Rangers is that since he picked the ball out of the net in the first minute, Allan McGregor hasn’t been forced into a save. That’s not to say that Villarreal don’t look dangerous, but there’s been nothing else on-target. Well, not until Santi Cazorla had a long-range shot a moment ago at least. Comfortable save from McGregor.

Villarreal keep the ball very well. When the ball comes to Cazorla, you know he's got one thing in his mind. He catches the shot very well but it's straight at Allan McGregor.

Villarreal reassert themselves with a long spell of possession as Santi Cazorla pulls the strings. The little wizard eventually fashions room for a shot, which has plenty of power but Allan McGregor doesn't have too much troubling batting it away.

Rangers haven't really made an impression - to put Villarreal under a little pressure will give them encouragement. At least they're making Villarreal's defence think.

Two first-time passes are all Villarreal need to move from their own half to the edge of the Rangers box, where a deflected effort results in their fifth corner. The ball lands invitingly on the head of Ramiro Funes Mori but the former Everton defender makes a mess of it.

    Quote Message

I think Villarreal feel Rangers aren't capable of building anything up from the midfield area. They've been really disappointing in terms of their midfield looking to get on the ball and going forward they've been really devoid of ideas. The use of the ball hasn't been great.

Rangers really haven’t been able to get into this match so far, regardless of whether the hosts may be playing a weakened team. Villarreal look infinitely more comfortable on the ball, though they’re allowing Rangers a bit more possession in the last few minutes. Andres Fernandez in the home goal hasn’t been tested though.

    Villarreal 1-0 Rangers

A lovely ball over the top from Santi Cazorla finds Carlos Bacca in acres of space on the right edge of the Rangers penalty box. The striker tries to feed a low ball to the feet of Karl Toko Ekambi but Connor Goldson gets across to make a vital interception.

    Villarreal 1-0 Rangers

A nice touch from Ryan Kent drives Rangers forward and Scott Arfield tries to slip a pass through to lone striker Kyle Lafferty, who can't quite get there, but the visitors do win their first corner of the match.

James Tavernier swings the ball in but it's an easy gather for goalkeeper Andres Fernandez.
