Hoffenheim’s Reiss Nelson could become the first Englishman to score against an English side in the Champions League for a non-British side, and the first do so for a non-English side since Patrick Roberts against Manchester City in December 2016.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola, who supposedly had only 15 fit players to choose from, makes five changes from the XI that started in the 2-0 loss at Chelsea.

Nicolas Otamendi and Oleksandr Zinchenko come into the backline. Ilkay Gundogan and Phil Foden are selected in the midfield with Fernandinho and David Silva both injured.

Forward Gabriel Jesus replaces Riyad Mahrez, who is on the bench.

Kyle Walker, Vincent Kompany and Fabian Delph are also substitutes.

Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola reflects on their first Premier League defeat of the season to Chelsea in this evening’s programme notes:

“We are not thinking of records. We are not tracking ourselves against our amazing achievements last season. The aim is to be champions at the end of the season, not to be invincible. We never speak about these things. I don’t, the players don’t and the club doesn’t.”

Hi Tom. Can you shed any light on the order in which you list tonight's Champions League ties at the top of the page? They don't seem to be in alphabetical order, and they aren't in group order either. It's driving me nuts.

    Matt, London

Very good question. Two early kick-offs, then two English teams. Then in group order after that?

The Champions League is thought of as the pinnacle of European club football. It can be electrifying, ingenious, emotive, and occasionally a little odd.

How much can you remember of the good, bad and unusual moments from the group stages in 2018-19?

The last six competitive meetings between Manchester United and Valencia have seen just five goals scored – their meeting in October ended 0-0 at Old Trafford.

If Manchester United fail to score against Valencia, it will be the first time since 2008-09 against Villarreal that they have failed to score both home and away against a group stage opponent.

It is a bitterly cold night at the Etihad. I cannot imagine many Manchester City fans taking their seats early. It is a night for hot drinks and big coats.

My temperature gauge says 5C, but it definitely feels colder than that.

United defender Eric Bailly, 24, could feature at the Mestalla after returning to training this week.

Bailly has only made four Premier League starts this season and, after being substituted in the 19th minute against Newcastle in October, was not picked again by Jose Mourinho for two months.

He was ruled out of recent matches against Southampton and Fulham because of injury, while he also missed a large portion of last season with an ankle injury.

It's the final night of the Champions League group stage, but there's no jeopardy for the two Premier League sides in action.

Manchester United and Manchester City have already secured their place in the last 16 so tonight is a largely administrative process, although a spot as group winners is up for grabs for both.

There shall be no votes, of no confidence or otherwise, for you to worry about.

    Come on in and relax...
