Schalke 2-1 Manchester City
Into the final half an hour in Germany. No goals in the second half but it's been a very good watch.

Atletico Madrid 0-0 Juventus
Two ghosts of Chelsea's past converge as Alvaro Morata replaces Diego Costa for Atletico Madrid. Remember that Costa will miss the second leg.

Danny Mills
Former Man City defender on BBC Radio 5 live
City are showing a real determination to get back into this game.
But let's not forget, at 2-1, going back to the Etihad, I would still say they are strong favourites. They only have to score one.
At home, 1-0, that's it, job done. They've got the away goal.
Schalke 2-1 Manchester City
Sergio Aguero shoots wide, Ilkay Gundogan has one blocked - City doing everything but score...
Atletico Madrid 0-0 Juventus
What a save that is! Atletico are piling on the pressure, Antoine Griezmann is in behind and either he or the last man loop in a lob which Wojciech Szczesny fingertips it onto the crossbar andaway!
Schalke 2-1 Manchester City
Raheem Sterling gets into the area but can't get a cross away. Manchester City have been largely superb tonight but still trail. It's a funny old game Saint...
Atletico Madrid 0-0 Juventus
He should score! Antoine Griezmann plays Diego Costa through on goal, he does everything right to hand off the final defender and looks certain to score but then screws his shot wide.
Clean through. Massive chance!
Schalke 2-1 Manchester City
Great tempo to this game now, being played like it's the last 10 minutes of the second leg.
If you're just joining us, Fernandino and Nicolas Otamendi will both miss the second lag because of suspension.
GREAT tackle on Sergio Aguero by Matija Nastasic as Aguero looked to get a shot away.
Atletico Madrid 0-0 Juventus
We are back playing in Madrid too, Juventus forcing an early corner. Comes to nothing.

Sheer stupidity from Fernandinho. VAR has got both penalty decisions spot on!
Benny, Newcastle
Both definitely pens. Doesn't matter how long VAR took.
Steve, Bicester
If you block a goal bound shot with your arm it's a penalty.

Straight from kick-off City go close as Kevin de Bruyne turns his man on the edge of the area and hits a low shot which is deflected just wide. From the corner Raheem Sterling shoots wide. City riled?

So an offside player can still win a penalty. Interesting. I didn't know that rule.
Julian
How can you call that handball? The referee is watching that back via VAR in super slo mo which is the opposite of what VAR is supposed to be be used for. It should be shown in real time. An aid to the ref in the time he gets to see it. Ridiculous decision.
Matt, Manchester
And people wonder why City fans aren't exactly in love with the champions league.

Might as well change the rule so that any touch on the hand or arm is a foul, at least we'd know where we stand.
Away we go! Worth thinking about the fact that a 2-1 defeat with an away goal is no disaster.

Alasdair Brown: How can it be clear and obvious if it takes 4 minutes to decide?
The Oracle: So wait, VAR can see it’s a foul, but can’t see that the player who was fouled was offside? First pen was ridiculous too, he moved his arm away from ball.
Paul: You don't need to know anything about laws of handball other than its supposed to be that any handball has to be deliberate. No way did Otamendi deliberately handle that ball. Never a penalty.

It was probably the longest VAR in history deciding the right decision. I don't think they knew. Then finally they give the penalty.
Atletico Madrid 0-0 Juventus
Worth recalling that VAR was used well in the Atletico game, overturning an incorrectly-awarded penalty.
The time taken to award the first penalty was definitely the biggest problem, for me anyway.

Loveof Football: The referee is doing his very best to be the talking point in the City game! It was never a penalty for Otamendi and the Fernandinho one is also debatable, City need to turn on the after-burner second half
Tom Gregory: Fernandinho banned for 2nd leg possibly worse news than conceding another goal. City have not played well without him this season
Lewis Kay: don't understand the first pen, if it takes 3 mins to come to a decision it can't be clear and obvious surely! I'm a United fan and I think it's harsh!

There's no way it's deliberate handball. Otamendi gets set, sees he's in trouble, that it's heading towards his arm. He very quickly tries to put it behind his back but the ball is hit that quick at his arm that he can't get it out of the way.

BBC Radio 5 live reporter at Veltins-Arena
Pep Guardiola had a long chat with the fourth official after that penalty was taken and scored. The Manchester City boss was not that animated, but clearly wanted the process explaining.
The blue flags are flying now. What an astonishing turnaround. I don't think the Schalke fans can really believe it, but they are re-energised and making a lot of noise.
