Schalke 2-1 Manchester City
The most VAR half in Champions League history?
Schalke 2-1 Manchester City

It's an unbelievable turn of events. City were leading, comfortable and dominating possession, with almost 70%. They were cruising.
But the handball, which is the massive turning point because it changes the whole atmosphere and the way the game flows, I'm still not convinced about.
Schalke 2-1 Manchester City
Manchester City have conceded at least two goals in six of their last seven Champions League knock-out ties.
They have had 67% of the ball and had 10 shots on goal to Schalke's four. There's number 11, Bernardo Silva curling over from 20 yards.
Schalke 2-1 Manchester City
John Murray is currently reading out the laws of handball. Tells you that it's been a controversial first half...

Fernandinho is touching his waist. That's not a foul. But maybe because of that their legs get tangled.
It's not deliberate but he prevents Salif Sane getting towards the ball. I can understand why that one was given.
Schalke 2-1 Manchester City
Five minutes added on - it's all happened in Gelsenkirchen...
Nabil Bentaleb (Pen)
Who saw this coming?! Not me!
Nabil Bentaleb goes the other way, firing to Ederson's right, and while the keeper gets a hand to it he can't keep it out.

And Fernandinho is banned now for the second leg!
Schalke 1-1 Manchester City
Another one!
Schalke have a free-kick, referee Carlos del Cerro Grande gives a pen instantly! Fernandinho had his hands on the hips of Salif Sane and the ref was in no doubt...
Schalke 1-1 Manchester City
Just to really annoy Manchester City, that booking shown to Nicolas Otamendi for the handball means he is suspended for the second leg.
John Murray

So much for the chat that VAR would get rid of controversies...

I don't know what is handball and what isn't anymore. Otamendi is trying to get his arm out of the way, it's in a natural position, but it stops the ball hitting the target.
Schalke 1-1 Manchester City
The VAR controversy will rumble on and on, and there's another chapter. Whether it was a penalty or not it's got to be quicker than that, I reckon.
Took an age.
Nabil Bentaleb (Pen)
That took an awfully long time but Schalke are level as former Spurs midfielder Nabil Bentaleb sends Ederson the wrong way to bury from the spot.

If it was on the goal-line what would you say? A penalty and a red card.
Schalke 0-1 Manchester City
A long, long delay but now they have decided that is a penalty!
Otamendi is booked too.
Schalke 0-1 Manchester City
Referee Carlos del Cerro Grande is talking to the VAR...
He's now called the captains over to tell them to tell their players not to crowd around him. This is a massive stoppage.
Schalke 0-1 Manchester City
Here come Schalke, Daniel Caligiuri moves on to his left foot and has a shot, deflected away for a corner.
Schalke want a penalty! They think it was blocked by Nicolas Otamendi's arm...
Schalke 0-1 Manchester City
Schalke did finish second in the Bundesliga last season but they look average at best, I'd have to agree. Not sure you can have a dig at any one side for being lucky when it comes to cup draws though!
City have a free-kick in a dangerous spot, Kevin de Bruyne lines it up - he curls one in and Ralf Fahrman makes a regulation stop.
