The pitch could be interesting tonight. It looks like it has recently been relaid. It has the look of a patchwork quilt in places. It is a retractable pitch here in Gelsenkirchen. In fact, we have parked our hire car in the car park where the pitch normally goes when it moves outside.

The quadruple is possible - with this squad and their ability. Pep Guardiola knows when to rest the players and when not to.

It's a case of ticking over, trying to do their best every game. Yes, recovery is important, but there's so many games. Whether they can keep the standard, that'll be the telling moment.

Pep Guardiola has a huge squad of quality players and he's rested them intermittently through the season. It sounds bizarre but I think the fact they are still in four competitions takes the pressure off a bit because they're probably going to win two.

They want to win the league or Champions League. One of those is almost a must. If not, I think it will be considered a disappointing season from the standards they set last season.

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has won the Champions League on two occasions as a manager (2009 & 2011, both with Barcelona); a third trophy would equal Zinedine Zidane, Carlo Ancelotti and Bob Paisley’s record.

He’s also reached the semi-finals in seven of his nine previous seasons as manager but hasn’t made the final since 2011.

Manchester City have been amazing of late. And let's be honest, this is one of the easiest draws in the Champions League.

Schalke are struggling in the Bundesliga, they managed to get through their group, but I'd be surprised if Manchester City don't win this by a couple of goals.

I'd love to see Atlético go far in the Champions League but I fear for them against Juve. Atlético just are not playing at all well and haven't really had a sustained strong spell all season.

This Atlético squad has plenty of potential, but the team has lots of issues: - Godin, Filipe Luis, Juanfran looking their age - Uncertainty over best midfield pairing - Lemar not reaching expectations - No consistent partner for Griezmann - General lack of fluency from front to back

But this is the Champions League and this is an opportunity to put the tie to bed very early. City have been fortunate in the draw so they've got to make sure they perform.

Leroy Sane: how the Schalke schoolboy became a Premier League stat at Manchester City

The trip to Schalke should bring back memories for Leroy Sane, who graduated from the German side's youth academy. Even though he's only on the bench...

It was not always guaranteed that Sane would make the grade, with the winger taking time to emerge as one of the star players in his age group.

"When he was 15 I'd heard of him but I didn't really pay much attention to him because in his first two years at Schalke he didn't play much," explained Der Westen journalist David Herten.

"He sat on the bench most games and he wasn't regarded as one of the most talented prospects at his age. When he turned 17 he had this amazing rise. He suddenly became the star for Schalke at the under-19s."
