Bayern Munich v Liverpool (20:00 GMT)

Ronny Jones: For Liverpool to complete the English hat-trick over Germans in the CL, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino must at all costs pick up from where they left off in their last league game (2 goals each). Very necessary because Salah is out of sorts and cannot be relied on.

Johnny Magrinho: A bit concerned about not having Fabinho on the pitch especially if he’s been replaced by Milner/Henderson... leaving Gini to push up through the middle on his own. Klopp probably knows best though! Well, I hope...

Opponents Bayern Munich are the third best team in Europe according to the ECI ranking with Liverpool eighth. Visiting Bayern is approximately equivalent to visiting Manchester City who Liverpool eliminated from this competition last year.

    Barcelona v Lyon (20:00 GMT)

The last time these two met was way back in 2009 and their teams were incredible!

With the score tied at 1-1 following the first leg, Barcelona ran riot to win 5-2 at Camp Nou to go through to the quarter-finals with a 6-3 aggregate score.

A certain Lionel Messi was on the score-sheet that day, along with legends Thierry Henry and Samuel Eto'o.

Bayern Munich v Liverpool (20:00 GMT)

Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk on the threat of Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski:

"You need to be smart and more than 100% ready for anything. If he's trying to run at you, trying to get past you, you need to be ready for that as well.

"You don't need to give any opportunities to those strikers because they will punish you and they will score."

LesNauges Perceus: Liverpool could very well end up winning both the Champions League and the Premiership. They could also win either or none. Whatever the outcome the next few weeks will be one hell of a ride....

Kyle: I think Liverpool will just get through with a 1-1 draw. My only real concern for Liverpool is the lack of creativity in centre midfield. There should be more space and a more open game though which will suit Liverpool.

Aaron: Formidable as Bayern are, I don't see them having the firepower to outscore this Liverpool team, especially not with the defensive record of LFC this season. Then again, away days haven't been the best so far in Europe so we'll see.

  14. 'He has all support in the world'published at 19:26 Greenwich Mean Time 13 March 2019

    Barcelona v Lyon (20:00 GMT)

Philippe Coutinho became Barcelona's record signing in January 2018 when he signed from Liverpool for £142m.

But he has struggled for form at Barca and was jeered by homes fans last weekend following another ineffective display in the 3-1 win over Rayo Vallecano.

This season he has managed just eight goals in 39 appearances for the La Liga champions, and has not found the net in the past nine matches.

Barcelona defender Gerard Pique has backed him, saying: "Philippe is having a good season, but obviously his price tag was very big.

"This means there are bigger expectations about his performances. You have to accept the reaction of the supporters because they are our fans, but inside the dressing room, the players give him all the support in the world."

I was in a similar situation with Sami Hyypia, it gives you so much confidence if you have a centre-back with the qualities of Hyypia or Virgil Van Dyk in front of you. You know all the high balls, if you can’t come for them, that he will clear them. And that’s 50% of all the trouble already gone.

  18. 'They are even stronger'published at 19:17 Greenwich Mean Time 13 March 2019

Bayern Munich v Liverpool (20:00 GMT)

Bayern manager Niko Kovac on the return of Liverpool centre-back Virgil van Dijk:

"We know they are strong in defence. With Virgil van Dijk coming back Liverpool will be even stronger in defence but we can score goals. We have shown that in the Bundesliga.

"There won't be a 0-0. We want to win it and that is how we will approach the game. You cannot rely twice on a goalless draw to advance.

"What we need to improve is our efficiency up front. I am confident that at home with the support of our fans, we will be even more efficient in attack and create more opportunities."

Ash: Big clubs aim to challenge for every competition they can. Ask Pep back in 09-10 if it was mad to challenge for everything, and miss out on a quintuple. Ask Fergie back in 98-99 if it was mad to challenge for everything and miss out on a treble, or Zidane with Real.

Sulaimon Adelekan: I agree totally with Klopp. It's mad to lose out on the Champions League because of the race for the league title and what if you don't win the league. Mad suggestion from a failed coach.

  20. What do Liverpool need to do?published at 19:13 Greenwich Mean Time 13 March 2019

Bayern Munich v Liverpool (20:00 GMT)

Liverpool were held to a goalless draw at Anfield in the first leg so will need to score in Munich if they are to reach the quarter-finals.

If they do, Bayern will then need to net twice as Liverpool will have an away goal advantage.

Last year's finalists have struggled for form in recent weeks - picking up five wins in their past 10 games in all competitions - but remain only a point behind leaders Manchester City in the Premier League title race.

Bayern are also involved in a battle for the league but they overtook Borussia Dortmund to move to the top of the Bundesliga with a 6-0 demolition of Wolfsburg on Saturday.

That was their 12th win in their past 13 league games.

Liverpool will welcome back the return of centre-back Virgil van Dijk, who missed the first leg through suspension, but will they have enough to beat an in-form Bayern side in Munich?
