Prince Gyimah: The suggestion that Liverpool should exit the UCL and focus on the league is ridiculous and ludicrous. It only makes sense if you can decide your own fate. Besides, if they don't compete in both how'd they know they would have failed trying.

Khan Karn: I understand this need for the league that Liverpool have but it must be noted that the Champions League is still the most prestigious trophy, ask any other club or any players and they'd rather win the Champions League.

The Champions League is the biggest trophy in the world. They lost in the final last year. Why would Liverpool not want to take it seriously? The best players want to play in the Champions League. I don't care who it's against. But this is against Bayern Munich at the Allianz! The best players have to play!

  5. 'If we win both, great!'published at 19:04 Greenwich Mean Time 13 March 2019

What did Mohamed Salah say to the old 'Champions League or Premier League' question?

"I'll be honest with you, the most prestigious competition for me is the Champions League," said Salah.

"But the dream for the city and the club is the league. So, I'm happy to sacrifice my dream for their dream.

"If we win both that would be great, and this is what we are trying to do."

    Barcelona v Lyon (20:00 GMT)

Barcelona make three changes from the side who beat Rayo Vallecano 3-1 on Saturday.

Ivan Rakitic, Sergi Roberto and Clement Lenglet are in for Arturo Vidal, Nelson Semedo and Samuel Umtiti - who all drop to the bench.

Ousmane Dembele is on the bench after a hamstring problem suffered as a substitute at the weekend.

Lyon named a weakened team against Strasbourg in a 2-2 draw at the weekend so make five changes from that game.

The big news is that captain Nabil Fekir is back from the suspension that ruled him out of the first leg. Forward Memphis Depay, midfielder Tanguy Ndombele and defenders Leo Dubois and Marcal also come back in from Saturday's game.

Centre-back Marcelo was a doubt with a thigh problem but has recovered.

There are currently three English teams in the quarter final stage of the Champions League for the first time since 2011.

If Liverpool join them tonight, it will be the first time since 2008 there has been four English teams.

  9. Can Lyon cause another shock?published at 18:58 Greenwich Mean Time 13 March 2019

    Barcelona v Lyon (20:00 GMT)

Despite having 25 shots, Barcelona were wasteful in Lyon and had to settle for a goalless draw.

That means they will have to win this evening to go through in normal time. An away goal for Lyon would give them an advantage

Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Philippe Coutinho were all denied by Lyon keeper Anthony Lopes in the first leg and that has left the tie in the balance.

Barcelona, who are considered heavy favourites to go through, are looking to secure their place in the last eight for the 11th consecutive season. They are unbeaten in 29 home matches - a competition record.

They have not won the Champions League since 2015 though, and suffered a shock exit last year when Roma pulled off that sensational second-leg comeback.

Can Lyon do the same tonight?

Alan Ferguson: Just to categorically state it. 100% want Liverpool to get through tonight. Forget all that if we go out we can concentrate on the league chat. Not having that at all.

Amrul Choudhury: It's bad enough Klopp sacrificing the League Cup and FA Cup. Liverpool need to go for UCL with a big possibility they could end up with nothing.

  14. 'That's really mad!' - Klopppublished at 18:49 Greenwich Mean Time 13 March 2019

Bayern Munich v Liverpool (20:00 GMT)

The Reds are a point behind Manchester City in the Premier League and are aiming to win their first title in 29 years.

Jurgen Klopp guided Liverpool to the Champions League final last season but former Manchester United defender Gary Neville suggested , externallosing in Germany could do them a "favour".

"I don't think any other coach has to answer this question," said Klopp. "It only happens if you're Liverpool manager and the pundits come from Manchester United."

"It is so easy to sit in an office or a studio and talk about things like that. We don't draw up a season and say the best way to go through it is to go out of all the cup competitions early.

"You do that and in that moment the same people go for you like mad. Now it is closer to the end of the season and it is allowed to go out of the Champions League without even trying to go through? That's really mad!"

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp says it is 'mad' to think a Champions League exit would help their bid to win the Premier League title.

There's been a few suggestions that Liverpool could benefit from playing fewer games and by concentrating purely on the league.

Do you agree with Klopp? Is it a mad suggestion? Or do you think Liverpool should throw all their eggs in one basket?

  19. Story of a living godpublished at 18:35 Greenwich Mean Time 13 March 2019

It was another historical night of Champions League football yesterday.

Cristiano Ronaldo once again underlined his worth in Europe's elite competition as his hat-trick overturned a 2-0 first-leg deficit against Atletico Madrid to send Juventus into the last eight.

It was his 124th goal in the Champions League and eighth hat-trick in the competition.

"This was why Juventus brought me here. To help do things that they have never done before," Ronaldo said afterwards.

    Oh, the arrogance. It's beautiful!

But Ronaldo wasn't the only one banging in goals.

Manchester City scored seven goals (SEVEN GOALS!), as they absolutely hammered Schalke to win their last 16 tie 10-2 on aggregate.

Sergio Aguero picked up two of the goals and Leroy Sane grabbed a hat-trick of assists on a memorable night at the Etihad.

To cap it off, Phil Foden became the club's youngest player to score in the Champions League at 18 years and 288 days.
