Ashley Young tried to clear it and he had loads of time. His clearance gets deflected then he misses the tackle against Lionel Messi. The Argentine uses Chris Smalling as a shield and he bends it around him. I'm sorry, but Young has to do better as Messi produces once again.

    Lionel Messi

    He's pretty good.

Lionel Messi has broken the deadlock! Ashley Young loses the ball at left-back, it's nicked into the path of Messi, he dances inside one man, three defenders converge on the Argentine genius and he just nonchalantly bends a curler into the bottom corner from about 20 yards. Picked his spot and just stroked it home.

    Textbook Messi.

Callum: Well played VAR! Absolutely the right call. Fred quite clearly got the ball!

Bob: Barca wasting no time to dive in the box! Ref falls for it but fortunately VAR saves the day.

Barcelona 0-0 Man Utd (Agg: 1-0)

Marcus Rashford is hurting Barcelona tonight. He gets the ball on halfway, backs himself and just knocks it past Gerard Pique. He outpaces him with ease, goes for goal form 20 yards but loses his footing and miscues it in the end.

This performance from United is chalk and cheese from how they played last week. Phil Jones then makes a great clearing header at the other end. There will be goals in this!

  6. 'Stonewall penalty'published at 20:13 British Summer Time 16 April 2019

    Barcelona 0-0 Man Utd

    Robbie Savage
Ex-Leicester City & Wales midfielder on BBC Radio 5 live

    Wow.

Is it going to be Manchester United's night? Fred has caught Ivan Rakitic on the calf and that is a stonewall penalty.

The referee has changed his mind and that is controversial.

    Juventus 0-0 Ajax

    Problems for Ajax.

Left-back Noussair Mazraoui has twisted his ankle in an innocuous-looking collision with Paulo Dybla. He has tried to run it off but without luck.

With Nicolas Tagliafico suspended the Dutch visitors are down to their third-choice left-back. Good luck Daley Sinkgraven...

That is quite something. Manchester United's Champions League run-in with VAR continues. They had the roll of the ball in Paris and they may have done again there.

Fred on Ivan Rakitic, penalty overturned though. He may have got a slither of a touch on the ball.

Barcelona 0-0 Man Utd (Agg: 1-0)

Barcelona love that one two - Jordi Alba to Lionel Mesis, scooped over the top back to Alba, but Phil Jones reads it well and clears. Chris Smalling then defends well to clear Luis Suarez's cross.

Barca having their first real spell of possession.

    Juventus 0-0 Ajax

Juventus have started the better of the two teams. Emre Can almost scores a freak opener as he charges down goalkeeper Andre Onana's leisurely clearance. Ben Foster style.

But the ball flies just wide off the former Liverpool man's outstretched foot.

    Robbie Savage

Paul Pogba has started the game well and it was his pass through to Marcus Rashford for that early chance. United have created more chances in these opening five minutes than they did in the entire game at Old Trafford. They are playing without fear.
