The control and calmness to finish the way Donny van de Beek did summed up the first half. He turned inside the area and there was no pressure on him at all. Spurs were just running around like they were in a practice match.

They never really got into their stride and they were being dominated by a young side. It was a bit of a let down.

Ajax have kept their first away clean-sheet in a Champions League knockout match for the first time since 17 April 1996, when they beat Panathinaikos 3-0 in the semi-finals.

Spurs failed to score in the Champions League for the first time in 21 matches.

Not the result Spurs fans were hoping for. But there were impressive performances from a few Ajax players yet again.

Former Spurs manager Glenn Hoddle on BT Sport: "Very, very disappointing. No creativity, no width. It was a very lacklustre performance.

"They didn't move the ball quick enough. Yes they are missing some key players - Harry Kane and Son Heung-min - but it was still disappointing."

Thoughts? Spurs paid for a very poor first half. The good news is it's only 1-0. They could have quite easily been 2-0 down within 20 minutes. The post also came to their aid in the second half.

The tie is definitely not over though. One goal in Amsterdam will bring Spurs level. As for Ajax... boy, they just keep getting better and better.

All over. Tottenham will have to score in Amsterdam. Ajax are celebrating. Big result for them!

Daley Blind is heading balls away for fun. Tottenham are just hooking them in from all angles.

Dele Alli wins the header and nods it down towards Lucas Moura. Moura sees the Hollywood sign and smashes a volley towards the corner flag.

Oopsies.

Ajax are doing everything they can to slow these last few minutes down and ruin any rhythm Tottenham muster.

A cry of "come on you Spurs" rings out while Fernando Llorente's header bounces just out of reach of Dele Alli.

On comes the veteran. 35-year-old Klaas Jan Huntelaar replaces Hakim Ziyech for Ajax.

Tottenham still have time but it's rapidly running out. Christian Eriksen delays a pass out wide to Ben Davies and it's cut-out.

Tottenham are throwing the kitchen sink. Moussa Sissoko swings a hopeful ball into the box. Fernando Llorente doesn't make a run though and it's straight into the keeper's hands.

Just seen another replay of that David Neres chance that hit the post. Hugo Lloris is literally playing musical statues.

I thought that was creeping in. Hugo Lloris was grounded and David Neres just stroked it with his left foot.

It was a cultured finish but it just hits the post.
