On only three previous occasions has a team been eliminated from a Champions League knockout tie having won the first leg by three or more goals.

BUT, the last occasion was Barcelona against Roma in last season’s quarter-final (4-1 first leg, 0-3 second leg).

Liverpool haven’t conceded a Champions League goal at Anfield in 367 minutes, since Kylian Mbappe scored for Paris St-Germain in September.

The Reds haven’t kept five consecutive home clean sheets in the European Cup/Champions League since October 1984.

Tonight is an opportunity for Liverpool to restore some pride with a win on the night, but let's not kid ourselves. The odds of Barcelona not scoring and conceding 3 over 120 minutes are about as close to zero as you can possibly get

Lionel Messi, who was rested at the weekend, is La Liga's top scorer with 34 goals, including the title-clinching winner against Levante.

He has 31 in his last 28 games for Barcelona and 19 in his last 17. He has 27 goals in 26 club games across all competitions in 2019.

    NOT BAD.

I'm a Liverpool fan but talk of us getting through is just ridiculous. Messi is the GOAT and will definitely score

    Aayush, London

In the past Klopp asked for believers, tonight Anfield will be full of us. Alas I will only be watching in the pub. Rhian Brewster to come on and play a blinder, with tomorrow's headlines proclaiming the heir to Messi's crown. Liverpool to go on and take the win in Madrid. We are Liverpool and we Believe.

    Gordon

Regardless if Liverpool score three, Messi will definitely score or assist for an away goal and make it impossible for Liverpool to win.

Barcelona striker Luis Suarez says he will not celebrate if he scores at Anfield.

Suarez, who left Liverpool in 2014 after three-and-a-half seasons, scored and then celebrated in Barcelona's 3-0 first-leg win at the Nou Camp.

The Uruguayan apologised for celebrating last week and says he "respects" Liverpool fans.

"I think people know the work I did here," said Suarez.

"I think there will be more applause than whistles. There may be quite a few who are not happy but I think there will be more who are happy and grateful."

Liverpool are looking to become only the third team in the history of the European Cup/Champions League to come from three goals down after the first leg of a semi-final and progress to the final, after Panathinaikos in 1970-71 and Barcelona in 1985-86.

Liverpool have a chance tonight, of course they do. Is it possible? Yes. Is it likely? No. If Barcelona score then it's game over. Liverpool need to focus on scoring and keeping the defence tight. The issue is how much will Liverpool struggle to score without Salah, Firmino or Keita?

Barcelona have won just five of their last 18 away Champions League knockout ties (W5 D4 L9), but four of those five victories have come in England (two vs Man City, one vs Arsenal and Man Utd), with the other against PSG in April 2015.

Eye Bee: I don't think Liverpool can do it. To score 3 goals without one of the best players in the world in Salah it's a big ask. Lot of pressure on Mané tonight

Richard Duncombe: landed in Leh, India at 3,500m today and can’t sleep due to a fantastic altitude headache. Great excuse for al all-night UCL sesh!

Teenage Liverpool striker Rhian Brewster is "ready" to play tonight, according to manager Jurgen Klopp.

The Reds are without injured forwards Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino, which may mean Brewster starts.

"He's ready. There is a big chance. It's nearly sure. It's guaranteed," said Klopp of Brewster's involvement.

"The situations are always like this. In an ideal world, in a season you always have much more players than you can involve in a squad.

"When you're on the bench, you are an option to play."

Start? Would be a massive call...

Barcelona are a very good side but they are not the great side they once were. In the last five seasons they have lost knockout games on the road to Roma, Paris St-Germain, Juventus, Atletico Madrid and Bayern Munich.

Liverpool have it all to do tonight.

They must score three times (at least) against Barcelona without two of their first-choice front three.

And they must not concede an away goal to a team led by the best player ever to walk the earth.
