A penalty given after 23 seconds settles the game.

It's been drab apart from that to be honest but Liverpool won't care.

    It can only get better.

Chance! Tottenham put together a really neat move, Dele Alli lays it off to Christian Eriksen, he's in space in the D but leans back and slices his left-footed shot over the top.

If he wants to stay in Madrid he'll have to be better than that!

Nathan Collicott: This game has all of the qualities of a neglected pond. Turgid, stagnant and honking.

    Harsh?

Chance! Spurs have a three-on-three break but Dele Alli's pass into the run of Son is poor. Overhit.

He had a big margin of error too.

Harry Winks takes a quick free-kick looking to send Son away but it's well defended by Virgil van Dijk.

Jan Vertonghen is back with us, Sean Dyche reckons he whacked his funnybone. Stilted game still, but then again I couldn't tell you what the first half was like in Amsterdam or at Anfield really.

    Better to end better...

Nicola: Imagine how much more exciting Ajax v Barcelona would be right now...

Daryl Wing: Well, after those two stunning semi finals, this is a bit..

Zander: Hoping for a second half like Wednesday night, but with goals more evenly spread. Beers cold, pubs are full, I want extra time and pens.

  11. Handball - the right call?published at 20:43 British Summer Time 1 June 2019

It does appear handball was the correct decision, based on what Uefa's head of refereeing Roberto Rosetti told the Times, external in January.

“If the position of the arm is natural or normal we cannot penalise a player. There is the concept of ‘deliberate’ but it is not easy to see that because I can’t say I have ever seen a defender deliberately doing a handball.

“The big challenge is the position of the arm. When the arm is totally out of the body above the shoulder it should be penalised, If the defender is making the body bigger in order to block the ball it is not fair."

And the football laws are changing from next season to make the handball rule clearer. (Read about them here)

Accidental handball will be a free-kick (or penalty) if a player's hand or arm has made their body "unnaturally bigger".

The gap is too long, I agree.

Jan Vertonghen is in trouble here, he's hurt his left arm and the physio is on to manipulate it. Weird injury, that was while trying to head a corner away.

DeathApeDisco: In fairness to the teams, the season's over. Why is the Champions League final such a long time after the end of the season? The players have lost their rhythm.

DoctorJoker: Both sides look really slow. It's not the fast pace we had anticipated so far - 3 weeks is too long of a break before the final

Matthew John Brett: This isn't as bad as the Europa league but am I the only one that thinks this game doesn't feel like a European final.

  14. GREAT SAVE!published at 38 mins

    Tottenham 0-1 Liverpool

Great ball from Joel Matip, beats the press to send Andy Robertson into space down the left. The Scotland captain has grass to run into and does, nobody closes him down quickly and he hits a rising drive which Hugo Lloris tips over!

Fine effort. That isn't, as Mo Salah smacks a shot into the stands from the corner.

If you've been drinking in the hot Madrid sun since late morning, you could be heading for snoozeville at this rate. Spurs on top but the final pass lets them down time and again.

Moussa Sissoko has two men free but can't beat Trent Alexander-Arnold and then Harry Winks plays behind Kieran Trippier who was free. Dele Alli then wins a corner...

Liverpool have not really showed up. But they lead.

    Phil McNulty

Harry Kane has barely had any impact so far - although in his defence he has not had much to feed off. This has been a pretty ordinary game and it is reflected in an atmosphere that is a bit flat.

Nathan Marzan: I really hope that soft penalty doesn't decide this game. Spurs are playing positive football and I would love to see them get back into this.

Steve Huish: I would take Kane off at half time as he just isn’t in the game. Get Moura on as he has pace to attack.

Bob Moss: Can we fast forward to the final 20 minutes please.
