FT: Leeds 2-0 Ipswich, West Brom 1-4 Derby

Goals, goals and more goals. It's been a heady midweek flurry of action from the EFL.

Great for Leeds and Derby in particular, as the Championship's upper echelons concertina - two points separate top from sixth.

At the bottom, Hull and Ipswich not quite cut adrift, but uncomfortably sliding that way.

It's been so good, we're going to do it all over again. Friday night lights, QPR-Aston Villa... How could you not wish to join us?

    Until then, good night.

  2. Preston out of the drop zonepublished at 22:07 British Summer Time 24 October 2018

FT: Preston 4-3 Brentford, Leeds 2-0 Ipswich, Bristol City 1-0 Hull

And here is the bottom of the table.

Preston are the big winners, moving a point clear of the bottom three, after they held on to beat Brentford.

Bottom two Hull and Ipswich suffer their ninth and seventh league defeats of the season respectively and are in danger of being cut adrift.

Tigers boss Nigel Adkins and Tractor Boys counterpart Paul Hurst may be feeling nervous about their futures.

Leeds Leeds move back to the summit after beating Ipswich at Elland Road.

Derby County move up to fifth and level on points with West Brom, while eating into the Baggies' goal difference.

The Rams travel to second-placed Middlesbrough on Saturday lunchtime. That one looks like it will be juicy.

    Quote Message

It is a fantastic win for us. It is always a tough place to come The way we played football, especially in the first half, we deserved it. The lads know the quality we have got in the squad. We will be hoping to do the same when we go to Middlesbrough on Saturday

    West Brom 1-4 Derby

That is it at the Hawthorns. Derby send a message out to the rest of the Championship.

The Rams pressed well, passed slickly and were a constant threat.

The scoreline does not flatter the visitors, and they are now unbeaten in four games.

West Brom, meanwhile, suffer back-to-back defeats.

  7. DISALLOWED GOALpublished at 21:54 British Summer Time 24 October 2018

    West Brom 1-4 Derby

West Brom think they have a second goal back in injury time through Hal Robson-Kanu from a corner, but it is ruled out for a handball by Kyle Bartley.

    Bolton 0-3 Nott'm Forest

Forest return to winning ways and make it back to back away wins with this in-the-end convincing win against Bolton.

Joe Lolley's swizzler from the edge of the box put the Reds in front in the first half, and having passed up several other chances, Lewis Grabban had to settle for just the two in the second.

Forest win 3-0, and set up a corker with Leeds at the weekend.

Bolton are without a win in four, and now their early season optimism seems to have seeped away. Hull will be the team they need to reignite their form against next up.

Into three minutes of added time.

It is still 4-1 to Derby, despite our scorebox saying it's 4-2. We have no control over that, we're afraid!

"This time you're going down..." Forest fans taunt Bolton with, after the Trotters miraculously pulled their Championship status out of the fire with two late goals on the last day in May.

Forest in no danger of being overhauled here, a first win in Greater Manchester since 1991 awaits.

    West Brom 1-4 Derby

A chance for a fifth for Derby as Mason Bennett collects a David Nugent flick-on and drives forward.

He gets into the box but leans back as he shoots and his effort goes well over the bar to ironic cheers from the Baggies fans left in the Hawthorns.

    Jay Rodriguez (83 mins)

    West Brom have one back.

After good work on the left, Harvey Barnes gets into the box and feeds Jay Rodriguez, who takes a touch and fires in past Scott Carson.

The Championship top scorers have something to show for their efforts and deny Derby a clean sheet.

But surely it's too late for a comeback? Yes, yes it is.

  13. goal

GOAL: Bolton 0-3 Nott'm Forestpublished at 21:42 British Summer Time 24 October 2018

    Lewis Grabban pen (83 mins)

Having already had a penalty saved and seen his attempts at a second blocked when he should have scored, Lewis Grabban finally buried a spot-kick.

Ben Alnwick brought him down, he stepped up to drill beyond the goalkeeper for a third.

Should have had a hat-trick, and Forest fans are into the Righteous Brothers' classic 'You Lost That Loving Feeling' in celebration.

    Preston 4-3 Brentford

Preston hold on through seven minutes of stoppage time to make it four unbeaten and climb out of the Championship relegation zone and up to 19th.

But, after finding themselves 3-0 up after 23 minutes, it was probably a bit closer than the Lilywhites would have expected.

Brentford made a good fist of it but left themselves with too much to do.

The Bees travel back to London with back-to-back defeats under Thomas Frank and no win in seven in the league.

    FT: Leeds 2-0 Ipswich

Can I just say that Leeds fans roared a huge cheer for the news that Derby were beating West Bromwich Albion 4-0...

Cordial relations between Leeds and Derby don't happen too often.

    Preston 4-3 Brentford

A crucial save from Preston keeper Chris Maxwell, who gathers Said Benrahma's deflected shot from the edge of the area at the second attempt.

That shot was followed up by Lewis Macleod, and Maxwell has stayed down and needs treatment.

Brave keeping, but it means more time will be added on here.

    West Brom 0-4 Derby

    Ged Scott
    BBC Sport at The Hawthorns

Ouch! 4-0 down, outclassed and the home fans are streaming out of The Hawthorns.

Worse still, Albion are a ball down too.

Home keeper Sam Johnstone was so disgusted at the ease with which Scott Malone waltzed through for Derby’s fourth that he simply turned and wellied the ball high over the Halfords Lane Stand roof!

“We want five” chant the delirious Derby fans behind his goal. They may yet get their wishes!

    Leeds 2-0 Ipswich

In front of a bumper crowd at Elland Road, Leeds United roar to the top of the Championship with a two-goal victory against bottom side Ipswich Town.

Kemar Roofe's first-half header was a stunner, created by Pablo Hernandez, and the Spaniard laid on the pass for skipper Liam Cooper's thumping second from the edge of the box to seal it.

Poor Paul Hurst might be on borrowed time here. He only arrived this summer.

    Bolton 0-2 Nott'm Forest

Forest close to a third, as Matty Cash shreds away down the right before whizzing a cross in that Lewis Grabban just cannot poke a toe to.

Bolton still have plenty of time, just under quarter of an hour.
