  1. CLOSE!published at 19:58 British Summer Time 24 October 2018

    Leeds 0-0 Ipswich

Leeds so close to an opener!

Sweeping ball from right to left picks out Ezgjan Alioski, who motors towards the edge of the Ipswich box before bending in a wickedly sizzling cross...

Bartosz Bialkowski came out to gather but spilled, and Leeds couldn't get a foot to the loose ball before it was cleared. It was a savage delivery that deserved better. Credit Ipswich for scrambling back to cover.

  2. goal

GOAL: Preston 2-0 Brentfordpublished at 19:58 British Summer Time 24 October 2018

    Callum Robinson (12 mins)

A dream start for Preston continues.

Callum Robinson strikes on the half-volley from 20 yards out, and his effort flashes into the bottom left-hand corner of the net.

A fine strike by the Lilywhites' top scorer, and Brentford have it all to do.

    Bristol City 0-0 Hull

Bristol City have grown into the game since conceding that early chance to second-from-bottom Hull.

Niclas Eliasson, their matchwinner at Brentford on Saturday, forced a good save from visiting goalkeeper David Marshall.

    Preston 1-0 Brentford

Lilywhites goalkeeper Chris Maxwell is down smartly to gather a cross from Bees right-back Henrik Dalsgaard.

The visitors have reacted well to going behind to that early Alan Browne goal, despite being on a run of six league games without a win.

    Leeds 0-0 Ipswich

Leeds have started with a bit of pomp against a tentative Ipswich side, who almost handed the hosts an opportunity on a plate.

Kemar Roofe hassled Bartosz Bialkowski into a hurried kick after a sloppy backpass, but Pablo Hernandez's snap-shot sailed high and wide.

Luke Ayling getting involved early doors as well, he was missed against Blackburn at the weekend, but is buzzing in lively fashion out wide.

  6. goal

GOAL: Preston 1-0 Brentfordpublished at 19:51 British Summer Time 24 October 2018

    Alan Browne (5 mins)

Brentford had the better of the opening stages at Deepdale, but the hosts take the lead from their first attack.

An effort from range deflects through to Alan Browne, who is all on his own in the area.

The midfielder does enough to poke it past onrushing Bees keeper Daniel Bentley and the ball bobbles into the net.

  7. Why can't Forest win at Bolton?published at 19:49 British Summer Time 24 October 2018

In case you were wondering what I was getting at before, Forest fans will need long memories to recall the last time their side went to Bolton and won.

The Reds have failed to record a victory in 10 visits since a 5-2 League Cup victory in October 1991, on the road to Wembley as it happens. The scorers that day were Roy Keane, pictured celebrating with Lee Glover after the Spurs semi-final win later that season - Teddy Sheringham, vastly underrated Tommy Gaynor and former Luton favourite Kingsley Black.

Aitor Karanka's current-day Forest side were in flying form, but Saturday's defeat by Norwich - having taken the lead - checked that slightly. However, they've only lost twice this term. It's the seven draws that are the main concern.

    Bristol City 0-0 Hull

Almost a Hull opener in the first minute at Ashton Gate, but home goalkeeper Max O'Leary makes a stunning reaction save to deny Kamil Grosicki.

Last season's corresponding fixture at Ashton Gate was a 5-5 draw. What price a repeat?!

  9. Happy memories for Trotters fanspublished at 19:47 British Summer Time 24 October 2018

If Forest supporters need to dredge the memory banks for a win, Wanderers fans can most likely recall with glee the last time they emerged victorious.

They only need hark back to May to recall Aaron Wilbraham's stooping, last-ditch header, which put the Trotters in front, saved their Championship status and sent the home support into delirium.

Since their survival, Bolton have been much improved, despite a run of just one win in nine. Victories over West Brom, Birmingham and Derby - all teams within or in range of the play-offs, are example of their abilities.

Perhaps Christian Doidge's leveller which rescued a point at Rotherham will be the catalyst for a turnaround, starting tonight?

Tottenham and Liverpool are both in Champions League action this evening.

Spurs have conceded a late equaliser and are 2-2 against Dutch side PSV Eindhoven after goalkeeper Hugo Lloris was sent off, while Liverpool will soon be kicking off against Red Star Belgrade. (What a team they used to have by the way... Pancev, Prosinecki, Savicevic...)

  12. Memories for Johnsonpublished at 19:42 British Summer Time 24 October 2018

Bristol City v Hull City (19:45 BST)

Coincidentally, boss Lee Johnson was a member of the Bristol City squad that was beaten at Wembley in 2008, coming on as a second-half substitute in the 1-0 defeat.

Under Johnson's stewardship, City have come closer than ever to reviving their top flight hopes, with a promising campaign and run to the Carabao Cup semi-finals ending just short last term.

Inconsistency seems to be their Achilles heel in 2018-19, as Saturday's 1-0 win at Brentford showed an ability to get a result in tough games.

Hull City concedeImage source, Getty Images

Ten years ago, these two teams battled it out at Wembley in the play-off Final for the right to play in the top flight and take themselves off the 'Major cities not to have had a Premier League football club' list. There was also the small matter of about £60m of funding, granted.

Hull City won the day and in turn ended their 104-year wait for top flight football, and have enjoyed a slightly yo-yo existence since. However, the string has gone a bit slack on that particular child's toy this season.

Six games without a win, seven times they've failed to score and just two wins. Only a higher number of wins is keeping them off the bottom of the table. Nigel Adkins needs to find the Tigers' bite, sharpish.

Having previously enjoyed success with internal appointments (remember Mark Warburton?), it was no surprise that Brentford opted for continuity when naming Dean Smith's successor.

Thomas Frank was a popular selection for supporters, having been part of Smith's coaching staff, but his first match in charge ended with a narrow 1-0 defeat by Bristol City.

Tonight, it's a trip to Preston North End that awaits. Still very much early days.

One stat tells you all you need to know about Preston's season so far, and that is - their two draws and a win in the past three games have accrued the same number of points as they acquired in the previous 10 matches.

Alex Neil's side have finally found the form which guided them to the fringes of the play-offs last season. Only a desperate late equaliser by Aston Villa winger Yannick Bolasie denied them three points at Villa Park, while Wigan felt the full force in a 4-0 thrashing a week later.

Saturday's draw at Hull was thanks to a last-gasp effort from Louis Moult, but kept their unbeaten run alive. It was one of three 90th-minute efforts recorded by the Lilywhites this season.

Frank Lampard's Midas touch showed no signs of abating, as Derby County overcame promotion rivals Sheffield United at the weekend.

In front of the television cameras, Lampard's Rams were off the mark within 19 seconds, and despite a Blades equaliser, added another goal to secure the points.

Having seen off one of their promotion rivals, they'll have to do it again with their visit to the Hawthorns. Form is not on their side, having won just one of the past 14 trips.

Darren Moore should be assured of a decent reception all around the Hawthorns tonight, as his old club Derby County take on his West Bromwich Albion team.

Moore was a big part of the Rams side that won promotion to the Premier League in 2006-07, making 91 appearances in all competitions and scoring five goals - one of which came in the play-off semi-final against Southampton.

That was one of four second-tier promotions the Birmingham-born stopper earned as a player, and he is now bidding to repeat that feat as Baggies boss.

Saturday's defeat by Wigan was a mini check to their ambitions, but a win over Derby will see them climb to the summit tonight...

  18. Tractor Boys stuck in the mudpublished at 19:31 British Summer Time 24 October 2018

Leeds United v Ipswich Town (19:45 BST)

Ipswich Town currently prop up the rest in the Championship, with just that one win all season, as former Grimsby and Shrewsbury boss Paul Hurst struggles to turn their form around.

His Tractor Boys side have lost six games, fewer than five other teams, but their lack of victories is currently their soft underbelly.

"I've not been involved in a run of games, 13, where there's been so many soft goals given away," Hurst told BBC Radio Suffolk, after Saturday's defeat by QPR.

The prospect of joint-second top-scorers Leeds will be no comfort either.

Leeds United v Ipswich Town (19:45 BST)

Having blasted into the new season with five wins from six games in all competitions, Leeds United have - by those early standards at least - cooled off a tiny touch.

One win from five has seen United, led by the charismatic, talismanic Argentine veteran Marcelo Bielsa, drop down to fourth, although they have only lost two games.

That said, Leeds will be rubbing their hands at the prospect of seeing Ipswich Town visit Elland Road. The division's bottom side have won just once all season.

Leeds could even go top tonight if results go their way.
