In comes that dead ball from Christian Eriksen... poor. Hits the first man.

    That's that.

Attack v defence but Newcastle will be happy. Erik Lamela struck the bar with a header, Lucas Moura should have scored but Spurs have a question to answer.

Jan Vertonghen has already put in nine crosses from open play, his most ever in a Premier League game. His previous high was seven - also against Newcastle in Nov 2013.

This time he's fouled on the left flank and Spurs will have a dead ball in a good area.

    Last chance of the half...

    Tottenham 0-0 Newcastle

Son Heung-min shows nice feet, this time driving in from the right and he goes down... nothing doing. He wanted the free-kick but Newcastle care little and break. Ayoze Perez down the right, he isolates a defender and tricks his way past him... shooting chance... he takes another touch and cuts the ball back to no one but a Spurs defender.

He had a brief sight of goal but turned it down. A waste...

It's a thankless task for Salomon Rondon up front for Newcastle, you are expected to do well when the ball comes to you despite having few touches or opportunities.

    Tottenham 0-0 Newcastle

Jan Verthongen doesn't have the frame of a nimble full-back but he skins his man and whips a good ball in... no one connects.

The pattern returns after that Salomon Rondon chance as Spurs pin the visitors in.

Neither team have yet to land a shot on target so far, with eight shots in total between the sides.

Spurs win a corner as a Verthongen cross goes out off DeAndre Yedlin.

Well, well, well, Newcastle have started playing a bit. Hats off to them, they've taken their time and remain cautious but have nicely reminded Spurs they are more than just a punch bag. They'll punch back...
