  1. CLOSE!published at 30 mins

    Tottenham 0-0 Newcastle

After all the home pressure the away side are nearly in the lead.

A cross from the left falls to Ayoze Perez near the penalty spot but his effort is blocked. It falls to Salomon Rondon 10 yards out and he takes a touch and fires, blocked again with white shirts throwing themselves at the ball bravely.

Corner for the away side and their fans lap it up with roars.

Vertonghen has looked the most dangerous player for the last couple of minutes as he has got past Son on the left and been able to put some dangerous, early balls in.

So far it's attack v defence and Spurs have gone close with two headed chances - Moura and Lamela the men in position.

Usual sight of so called lesser teams filling their half with players to frustrate the home team in the hope they can score on the break.

Newcastle have a conundrum because if they squeeze up Eriksen can play that pass over the top really easily.

Mike Ashley is watching on. The gent he chats to here probably bought that posh coat from one of Ashley's many, many shops. Ashley bought a sofa retailer this week, as you do.

His side sit in again and Spurs exchange passes on halfway. Jan Verthongen gets it on the left flank and stays there so the ball can come back to him.

In his cross comes, bounces, headed by Erik Lamela... hits the bar. They are getting closer.

Right, this is a bit timid so far so what are you doing on your Saturday? Going to any games?

Newcastle have come for a point. They can dream of more but that's what they have set up for.

I've got Spurs on 72% possession so far. It feels like more than that to be honest. Christian Eriksen shoots from range... blocked.

Spurs move it left, back into the middle and again they get squeezed out. Good from Newcastle.

What a gift! Lovely clipped ball from Lamela, it's almost as if Moura gets up too early, he heads it back across goal. Golden opportunity, just got too much on it.

  13. CLOSE!published at 15 mins

    Tottenham 0-0 Newcastle

A one-two between Kieran Trippier and Son Heung-min looks nice but gets thwarted before a cross can come in. Spurs will need to switch play again and try to move this block of Newcastle shirts.

Back it comes to Trippier and he's fouled by Salomon Rondon. Free-kick out wide. I'd lash this in the box as there's not much else happening.

    In it comes, headed away.

Clipped back in again by Erik Lamela... BIG CHANCE... Lucas Moura must score... NO. Headed wide from seven yards and the flag was down, it would have counted.

A solid break, held up by Salomon Rondon and he introduces team-mates. It eventually leads to a cross into the box which Davinson Sanchez cuts out.

Normal order resumes, Spurs on the ball, all 11 away shirts sit in.

Good play from Son, just teasing Yedlin and I think the left is going to be the dangerous side for Newcastle and could be where the game is won for Tottenham to find a way to break them down

Son Heung-Min tries to dribble in from the left. he's not doubled up on but tripled up on and his pocket is picked.

I don't think Newcastle have touched the ball in the Spurs half yet.

Owner Mike Ashley and director Lee Charnley are in their seats with no one really sat anywhere close.

They splashed out this week of course but new boy Miguel Almiron is awaiting clearance to make his debut.

Again Spurs come forward, again they face a Newcastle dam. They reach the edge of the area and shirt after shirt closes down space. A cross comes in, held by the keeper.

I can see Spurs having a fair few shots from range today.
