  2. 'We had chances to score'published at 14:13 British Summer Time 9 June 2019

    Australia 1-2 Italy

Australia coach Ante Milicic said: "I wouldn't say it was a strong performance. It was decent but we weren't at our best and in the end we conceded from a set piece, which was very disappointing.

"We'll analyse the way we defended and we have three days to regroup for the Brazil game.

"We've got to look at both ends of the field. We had chances to score a few more but defensively we conceded a few chances as well so that's an area we're going to have to address."

    FT: Australia 1-2 Italy

Australia captain Sam Kerr: "It is obviously disappointing to lose but we have two more games and we are not out. We will focus on Brazil.

"We dominated the first half and kept possession well but we didn't take our chances. It's the first game, we have got the jitters out now.

"Hopefully the goals keep flowing but getting a win was the most important thing for us now."

Who saw that coming? Well, not many people in the press box, that's for sure.

Australia - the big favourites to top Group C - looked to have been doing all the late pressing as they searched for a winner of their own.

The delighted Italian squad are all in a circle, dancing. On the full-time whistle, they all sprinted on to the field, as if they'd won a penalty shootout. Fantastic scenes for them.

Australia look absolutely gutted, but they've played well enough in spells today to make you think they'll still qualify for the knockout stages.

Barbara Bonansea is just the second Italian to score more than once in a Women's World Cup match, after Carolina Morace in 1991 (hat-trick v Chinese Taipei).

    End-to-end stuff.

Daniela Sabatino goes through one-on-one with the keeper but this time she knows she is well offside. Australia get on with it quickly and win a corner at the other end.

It's aimed towards defender Clare Polkinghorne but her header goes well wide of the left post.

Aleks: In 2006 Italy robbed Australia in men's World Cup. Today seems like a bit of retribution.
