    Australia 1-1 Italy

Clare Polkinghorne sprints after Sara Gama and puts pressure on the Italy captain. She should win a throw-in too but the referee thinks she's got a touch on it.

Australia are peppering crosses into the Italy box now. It's kitchen sink time!

    Australia 1-1 Italy

Emily van Egmond's free-kick is flicked on among a huddle of players but there's no way through as a wall of Italian defenders hook it long.

Cristiana Girelli then does brilliantly well to spin past two defenders, then flick a through ball into the path of Barbara Bonansea, who, guess what? Is offside.

    Australia 1-1 Italy

Italy have had the ball in the back of the net three times but are still drawing 1-1. This is still there for the taking!

What a result it would be too. Australia have a free-kick here though...

Simon Kebble: wwc2019, VAR too long and delayed, assistants not allowed to flag obvious offside - totally confusing!

  5. DISALLOWED GOALpublished at 81 mins

    Australia 1-1 Italy

    A second disallowed goal!!!!

Daniela Sabatino is played in and manages to squeeze it past the keeper. It rebounds off the post but she reacts well to slot it into the open net from a tight angle.

She runs off in celebration but again, it's ruled out for offside. The Italians can't believe it!

  6. Postpublished at 80 mins

    Australia 1-1 Italy

Another close call and another offside. Cristiana Girelli gets a yard on her defender and tries to cut a dangerous ball back into the middle.

The Australian defence are in no-man's land!

    Australia 1-1 Italy

Excellent defending from Manuela Giugliano. She goes in strong on Stephanie Catley, wins the ball and wins a throw-in when it ricochets back off the Australian.

Italy coach Milena Bertolini is waving her team forward. They want three points not one!

  11. Postpublished at 74 mins

    Australia 1-1 Italy

A cross from the right is contested by Sam Kerr and it bobbles up into the air in the box. Katrina Gorry and Laura Fusetti end up bashing into each other but the free-kick goes Italy's way.

  12. GREAT SAVE!published at 72 mins

    Australia 1-1 Italy

Valentina Bergamaschi gets in behind and is allowed to run all the way into the box unchallenged.

Her shot is well saved by Lydia Williams before the flag goes up for offside. Poor Begamaschi ran about 70m before play was stopped. Surely that rule needs adapting?

There are a lot of neutrals inside the stadium, as demonstrated by the fact a rendition of the French national anthem, La Marseillaise, has just been loudly sung by a section of at least a thousand people away behind the goal Australia are defending in this second half.

  14. NO PENALTYpublished at 69 mins

    Australia 1-1 Italy

The replay shows the ball hitting Lisa de Vanna. It looks like it's her arm to me but it's not easy to see.

The referee decides it's not clear enough. No penalty.

  15. VAR checkpublished at 13:25 British Summer Time 9 June 2019

    Australia 1-1 Italy

They are going back to check for handball during that Italy corner... the players seemed adamant!

  16. Postpublished at 68 mins

    Australia 1-1 Italy

Oh, INCHES! Sam Kerr meets a cross from the left and just tips it inches over the bar. Turns out she's inches offside too.

  17. CLOSE!published at 67 mins

    Australia 1-1 Italy

Italy are really hotting up. Barbara Bonansea has two opportunities to drill a cross into the centre from a few yards out, and to the right of the goal.

Both times it's blocked. A corner to the Italians... there's a few appeals for handball from the Italy players but the referee is having none of it.

  18. YELLOW CARDpublished at 64 mins

    Australia 1-1 Italy

Cristiana Girelli comes clashing into Tameka Yallop, who had turned neatly in midfield. She goes into the book.
