You may not like it - but that decision was not controversial. Football's law changes came into effect on 1 June, with one of them being this one:

The goalkeeper must have one of her feet partly on the goalline (or above it if jumping) when the kick is taken. She cannot stand behind or in front of the line.

    More here.

Prince Gymiah: How many French players encroached the penalty box before the penalty was kicked in both the first and second penalty? Ridiculous #VAR, external decision.

Hatters: Every single goalkeeper in the world moves off their line when facing a penalty

Romain Braganza Fernades: This is pure cheating!!! Ok that was a fair penalty.. but a yellow??? And how could that possibly be moving off the line by the goalkeeper??? How many times have we seen other goalies move their lines! Daylight robbery!!!

Chiamaka Nnadozie does well to catch a cross from the left. The Nigerian keeper looks distraught.

I thought she was going to cry when the penalty re-take was awarded.

  6. Postpublished at 85 mins

    Nigeria 0-1 France

Nigeria are looking to keep things super tight now. They can't afford to concede another goal as their best chance of qualifying as a third-place team with three points, is by having a favourable goal difference.

They are not quite out of the World Cup yet.

John Smith: Absolute rubbish decision to retake French penalty.

Waren B: Shame on the FIFA women world cup officials

Edward Sudbury: Jammy France, a dodgy penalty and even worse that the missed penalty was re-taken. I could understand if the first penalty had been saved but the penalty taker missed!

The thing about VAR is you are not going to get away with that. She stepped away from the line and the rules are you have to stay on the line.

Right decision to award the penalty. In terms of the sending off, there is not much else the referee could have done in that situation.
