  1. 'We want to win seven games'published at 19:16 British Summer Time 19 June 2019

    Japan v England (20:00 BST)

England manager Phil Neville says they are focused on topping Group D even though finishing as runners-up could mean a more favourable draw further down the line.

If the Lionesses avoid defeat against Japan they will face one of the best third-place finishers in the last 16.

But it means they will also be on the same side of the draw as hosts France and, most likely, holders the USA.

"My view is that we want to win seven games in this World Cup," said Neville.

And he said that is the case "no matter what route we take".

  3. England's potential routepublished at 19:12 British Summer Time 19 June 2019

    Japan v England (20:00 BST)

So here's the potential routes England could take...

Defeat tonight will mean they travel to Rennes on Tuesday to take on Canada or the Netherlands in the last 16.

If they avoid defeat then they will play a third-placed side - China/Cameroon/New Zealand/Chile/Thailand - in Valenciennes on Sunday.

Top the group and they take on either Norway or Australia in the quarter-finals but will likely come up against France or the USA in the semi-finals.

By finishing runners-up, they would meet either Italy, Nigeria, China, Chile or Thailand in the quarter-finals.

A semi-final would then likely involve one of the Netherlands, Canada or Sweden.

  4. 'Team shows the depth of England's squad'published at 19:10 British Summer Time 19 June 2019

Phil Neville has picked the best team to beat Japan tonight. He's factoring in niggles, games played - the things you do have to look at in tournament football.

He said he would make changes and he has. People will think 'ooh he's changed his team again', but think of it as a positive, because everyone who comes in can do a job - it shows the depth of England's squad.

  5. How things standpublished at 19:08 British Summer Time 19 June 2019

    Japan v England (20:00 BST)

Having already beaten Scotland and Argentina, England start their final group game two points above second-placed Japan, the 2011 world champions.

Japan, who have already secured a place in the knockout stage, had to settle for a shock 0-0 draw in their opening game with Argentina before beating Scotland 2-1 on Friday.

It means they need a victory today to overtake England and avoid a last 16 clash with either Euro 2017 winners the Netherlands or 2015 World Cup quarter-finalists Canada.

A draw or a win will mean England top Group D and set-up a tie with one of the best third-placed sides in the next round.

Phil Neville insists that his team will be going all out for the win, and to top the group, but with eight changes to the team, there is an element of risk. England will face an easier last-16 game if their avoid defeat and finish ahead of Japan, but it will mean they will likely have to beat hosts France or holders the United States should they reach the semi-finals.

If Japan win tonight, England could face a trickier last-16 tie but perhaps an easier side of the draw. Their first knockout game could either be against the Netherlands, who beat them 3-0 in the last four of Euro 2017, or Canada, who they beat at the 2015 World Cup but lost 1-0 to in a warm-up game in April.

  8. Duggan back for Englandpublished at 19:02 British Summer Time 19 June 2019

    Japan v England (20:00 BST)

Great to see Toni Duggan raring to go. She was on the losing side with club Barcelona in the Champions League final defeat to Lyon a few weeks ago and has been desperate to get back to winning ways.

It's also a big opportunity for Georgia Stanway and Rachel Daly to show what they are capable off. Both have made substitute appearances in the opening two games.

    Japan v England (20:00 BST)

Phil Neville makes eight alterations to the team which beat Argentina 1-0 in their second group game.

Barcelona forward Toni Duggan makes her first start of the tournament after a thigh injury as the front four all change. That means Georgia Stanway plays at number 10, with Rachel Daly on the right and Ellen White up top.

Karen Bardsley also returns in goal as Millie Bright and Demi Stokes start in defence. Keira Walsh replaces Jade Moore in midfield.

England and Japan are already through but it's a scrap for the top spot in Group D.

The Japanese came out on top in 2015 but England are determined to change that this year.

They lead the race by two points and anything other than defeat is enough for the Lionesses.

But can they make it three wins out of three? Kick-off is an hour away and I can't wait!
