  2. 'Japan dangerous from set-pieces'published at 20:27 British Summer Time 19 June 2019

    Japan 0-1 England

    Rachel Yankey
Ex-England midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

Japan had rode out that surge of pressure that England had after Ellen White's opener and now they're applying some pressure of their own.

Japan always have a few different set-piece routines up their sleeve, so England need to keep an eye on that.

Shaun McCann: Millie Bright is so strong as a defender, really impressive.

    Japan 0-1 England

Kumi Yokoyama nut-megs Toni Duggan down the right, feeding it through to Rikako Kobayashi.

Her cross is blocked by Demi Stokes. It actually bounces back off the attacker but the referee doesn't see and awards a corner.

It's comfortably dealt with by England before a free-kick is given against Japan for pushing in the box.

  6. Shooting again Georgia? And why not.published at 20:25 British Summer Time 19 June 2019

The England band are banging their drums and tooting their trumpets with extra vigour after that start. Georgia Stanway has been brilliant so far.

If you haven't watched her play before, you've probably worked out the Manchester City forward doesn't need encouragement to shoot. Quite refreshing in an age where teams try to pass their way into the net.

Here's that save Karen Bardsley made earlier. A few minutes later, England went and took the lead through Ellen White.

    Japan 0-1 England

England have just reduced the tempo a little here. Japan are struggling to get hold of the ball.

You sense there's an opportunity for England to really take it to them though. Bang in two or three and make it comfortable!

Vincent Wood: Correa, Endler, and now Yamashita. For all the debate over goalkeepers in the women’s game, we have seen some stunning performances this World Cup that should put it to bed.

John McCarron: Both England and Japan goalkeepers have made world-class saves in this match - there ought to be a "save of the World Cup" award.

I always love a good Ellen White celebration too. She could score against a group of 5-year-olds and still celebrate like it's the World Cup final.

That was lovely play from England. When it fell to Jill Scott she had that confidence to shoot from outside the box.

Ayaka Yamashita then made another great save, you can see the ball moved in that second shot.

When England play one-two touch stuff Japan can't live with them. It was the same against Argentina - when England ramp up the tempo, they're untouchable.

Ellen White also scored the opening goal for England when they played Japan in their final group game of the 2011 World Cup. The Lionesses won 2-0 that day thanks to a 15th-minute goal.

The new Manchester City striker beat it by a minute today.

Maison McDonnell: What a great goal by Lionesses took ages for it to actually roll into the goal.

Greg Morter: Positive start culminating in the goal by Ellen White, get in Lionesses.

Phil Neville was delighted with that goal. He ended up kicking over the water bottles in celebration and has to sheepily go back and pick them all up afterwards.
