    Japan 0-0 England

    Rachel Yankey
Ex-England midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

It's not too many changes. I'm interested to see how Toni Duggan and Demi Stokes get on.

England have been fantastic going down the right so hopefully they can do the same on the left today.

    Japan 0-0 England

It's also great to see Rachel Daly playing further forward. It's where she shines for NWSL club Houston Dash.

Phil Neville has used her as a defender more often than not.

  3. 'England's toughest test in the group'published at 20:00 British Summer Time 19 June 2019

    Japan 0-0 England

    Rachel Brown-Finnis
Ex-England goalkeeper on BBC Radio 5 Live

If you looked at the rankings coming into the tournament, Japan would have been England's toughest test in the group.

They're technical, they play tricky sharp traingles and they're tenacious when out of possession.

But England are well-equipped to deal with them tonight.

  4. KICK-OFFpublished at 1 min

    Japan 0-0 England

Off we go! Here's a reminder of the teams. Watch out for Japan's Saki Kumagi. The versatile Lyon centre-back was nominated for BBC's Women's Footballer of the Year award.

When I looked at the England players in the tunnel they looked so ready and relaxed.

An emotional "God save our Queen". England are back in their white home kit tonight. They get rid of the tracksuits, shake hands with the Japanese and pose for a team photo.

There's nothing worse than being in the environment and being injured. It's tough. I bet Toni Duggan can't wait to get on the pitch.

She has developed different skills since joining Barcelona.

    Rachel Brown-Finnis
Ex-England goalkeeper on BBC Radio 5 Live

When we first played Japan in 2007 and it was a shock to how they played and how organised they were.

But today will be different. England are more than good enough to beat them and get all three points tonight.

Japan have always been one of the most technical teams when it comes to World Cups. It is like art sometimes.

Some of the BBC Sport girls have headed out to Nice tonight to watch the Lionesses.

While they're tanning themselves in the French sun and watching Nikita Parris tear up the World Cup, we're sat in the office working hard.

    No hard feelings though, obviously.

  15. Japan's football DNA is amazingpublished at 19:50 British Summer Time 19 June 2019

    Japan v England (20:00 BST)

    Jordan Nobbs
    England midfielder on BBC One

There's always going to be turnover in squad but for Japan to have 17 out of 24 not to have played at the World Cup is a gamble.

With Arsenal we went to Japan and went to school where young girls were playing. The DNA was amazing they were playing football on the floor.

  16. 'Stokes missed out four years ago'published at 19:49 British Summer Time 19 June 2019

  17. ‘England have good chance of repeating SheBelieves win’published at 19:48 British Summer Time 19 June 2019

    Japan v England (20:00 BST)

    Alistair Magowan
    BBC Sport in Nice

Just spoken to Japanese journalist Koki Harada, who tells me that he's surprised that defensive midfielder Narumi Miura has been dropped as he thinks England have a good chance of replicating their 3-0 win over Japan in the SheBelieves Cup last March.

He also says that despite the 2-1 win over Scotland there have been question marks over the team's strategy, especially after the goalless draw with Argentina in their opening Group D game.

Will that inspire confidence for England?

  19. 'It's about finishing top of the group'published at 19:45 British Summer Time 19 June 2019

    Japan v England (20:00 BST)

    Phil Neville
England Women manager on BBC One

We've got Stokes and Duggan back. They are keen to play. Regarding the backline, we haven't managed to play this back four in a while. Nikita Parris and Fran Kirby have put in a shift so freshening the wide areas was a good idea.

We spoke before the game about our objectives - about finishing top of the group. It's not about the path through the competition but about building momentum.
