    HT: Japan 0-1 England

    Sue Smith
Former England forward on BBC One

It's been a good performance from England. Phil Neville will be happy. This is an technical Japan side, and England have had to be patient but they've played some good stuff.

  2. HALF-TIMEpublished at 20:46 British Summer Time 19 June 2019

A good half from England. They are on top of this match and on top of Group D.

What a half Rachel Daly has had by the way. It's a big chance for her to show Phil Neville what she can do in an attacking role.

So far, she's nailed it. Daly and Georgia Stanway have been my stand out players of the half.

  4. 'England can't afford errors against good sides'published at 20:44 British Summer Time 19 June 2019

    Japan 0-1 England

    Sue Smith
Former England forward on BBC One

That's something they're working on [not giving the ball away easily]. The first half against Scotland they were outstanding, but you can't afford to make errors against good sides because they'll punish you.

Karl: Been really impressed with Bright so far. She has intercepted the ball in dangerous positions, we’re losing the ball far to much we need to keep it more.

Rob Hainsworth: For different reasons, Millie Bright & Rachel Daly are a joy to watch.

Mark Le Haray: All the talk about the USA game was how many changes they made but still looked so good. Well England are still looking good against one of the best sides in the world.

Millie Bright plays a long ball for Ellen White to chase after England keep possession nicely at the back.

The keeper comes out to gobble it up before Rachel Daly slides in to put pressure on full-back Aya Sameshina.

  7. 'Duggan hasn't had a lot of the ball'published at 20:41 British Summer Time 19 June 2019

    Japan 0-1 England

    Rachel Yankey
Ex-England midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

Toni Duggan hasn't had a lot of the ball - the ball has rarely come down the left side.

What Duggan needs is to get the ball into feet where she can cut infield and she'd be helped if Demi Stokes bombed forward and overlapped, too, which she hasn't done yet.

Maybe Stokes's injury is playing on her mind - she's just let herself bed into this game so far.

Toni Duggan gives the ball away in midfield and Kumi Yokoyama is given space to drive into.

She goes all the way through the centre, to the edge of the box, before toe-poking it well wide of the right post.

    Japan 0-1 England

Toni Duggan hasn't quite found her range yet. A long, diagonal ball doesn't find Rachel Daly but the defender's touch falls kindly for her.

She tries to find Lucy Bronze on the right but it's intercepted.

Steven Hayhurst: Must say, this Lionesses team are a joy to watch. Great technical ability, better first touch than a lot of their male counterparts and when they fall down they get back up, no fuss.

Oh, nice! Quick, silky feet from Hina Sugita and she evades the challenge from Jill Scott.

England win the ball back immediately but the counter-attack breaks down.

  13. 'Sweet strike from Daly'published at 20:34 British Summer Time 19 June 2019

    Japan 0-1 England

    Rachel Brown-Finnis
Ex-England goalkeeper on BBC Radio 5 Live

Keira Walsh's ball for Rachel Daly is a good one. She breaks through two Japan defenders and hits a sweet strike but the Japan keeper makes another decent save.

  14. GREAT SAVE!published at 35 mins

    Japan 0-1 England

Keira Walsh fires it long towards Rachel Daly, who has made a brilliant run in between the centre-backs.

She uses her strength to bundle through, wins the ball and is only denied by the fingertips of Ayaka Yamashita. The resulting corner is then smashed wide by Toni Duggan.

    Japan 0-1 England

Jill Scott swings it in from the right, looking for the run of Ellen White, but there's too much pace on it.

The Manchester City midfielder is annoyed with herself!

  16. 'Walsh must be sharper'published at 20:32 British Summer Time 19 June 2019

    Japan 0-1 England

    Rachel Yankey
Ex-England midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

Keira Walsh has been struggling in the past five minutes - she needs to get sharper. England's whole midfield has struggled to get on the ball and they're going through the phases too quickly, someone needs to get a foot on the ball and calm things down.

Wayne Ellis: Encouraging that despite making so many changes in the group games, our level has never dipped. Shows the strength in depth we have now.

  18. 'Daly impressing further up the field'published at 20:31 British Summer Time 19 June 2019

    Japan 0-1 England

    Rachel Yankey
Ex-England midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

Now Rachel Daly has the opportunity to play higher up the field, where she wants to play, she's been lively. That's where she wants to play so she'll want to impress so Phil Neville plays her there again.

    Japan 0-1 England

Keira Walsh loses the ball and immediately brings down her tackler, Saki Kumagai.

Japan have a free-kick in the centre and it's played short to Kumi Yokoyama, who hits it from long-range again.

It's on target but this time does little to trouble Karen Bardsley.

  20. 'England's players have taken their opportunities'published at 20:30 British Summer Time 19 June 2019

    Japan 0-1 England

    Sue Smith
Former England forward on BBC One

This has been an opportunity for the players that have come in - and it seems that they are taking it.
