I've just realised we haven't actually had a save in the whole game. Both sides have scored their only effort on target.

Where is the creativity we recall with Hamm. Boxx. Osborne. Rapione etc. They would have hammered Spain

Alex Morgan isn't quite on the ball (mentally or physically) as the chance comes to run down the right wing. She eventually goes for it and her cross is blocked into the arms of the keeper.

Should USA bring on Lindsey Horan?

I know why Julie Ertz is there but in terms of creativity, she isn't going to give you that. She's there to break up the play.

The ball bounces in front of Lucia Garcia, who volleys well over the bar. That would have been the goal of the tournament, but wasn't very close.

Just wide. The USA's Samantha Mewis spins on the edge of the area and curls an effort just past the post.

That's a marker for Spain. They want to win it rather than just keep the USA at bay.

The tension is building in the stadium. Very few people expected it to be this tight at this stage, and that latest Spain chance has made a lot of USA fans even more nervous.

Some bookmakers had the holders as 1-10 on favourites to go through tonight.

Last night, the hosts needed extra time to get past Brazil. Are we in for another late one this evening?

Inches. Spain's Patri Guijarro gets the ball in the box and dribbles a slow shot beyond the diving Alyssa Naeher which is also beyond the far post.

Poor by the US. Julie Ertz plays a pass from the left wing, with Tobin Heath making a dummy run... but there's nobody behind her running onto it, so Spain get possession.

It was such clever play by Crystal Dunn down the left-hand side, and the shot's not that far away.

Megan Rapinoe plays a short pass to Abby Dahlkemper, whose ball into the box is cleared.

But it starts a good spell for the US as Crystal Dunn has a cross headed away and Rose Lavelle shoots over the bar from 20 yards.

Spain are happy to dictate the tempo when the ball gets into the attacking half.

USA are going to have to work hard for this win.
