Once again it was Tobin Heath who was the jump-start to that attack (for USA's goal). She loves to take people on.

We've seen her come inside a lot today, she's so versatile.

    Spain 1-1 USA

    Laura Bassett
Former England defender on BBC Two

All credit to the Spanish defenders - they're compact and slowing the USA players down. They are defending deep and stifling the USA.

USA need to have concentration. Their decision-making is key and that starts from the goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher at the back.

There have been 20 penalties awarded at this World Cup. The record for an entire Women's World Cup is the 22 back in 2015.

Has there been a better half in this World Cup?

Spain's fans look hopeful, daring to dream.

The USA have had the better chances and remain the favourites but they're being tested here and you have to say that's got to be good for the tournament, for the spectacle.

Abby Dahlkemper and Becky Sauerbrunn are having to do some honest defending and put their bodies on the line. Crystal Dunn is having to run back to support the central defenders.

Spain need to take these chances. It was a great start for them.

It's a wonderful match. People will pick apart the USA performance but this is the football we've all been waiting for. There's been attacking play from both sides and people putting their body on the line in defence.

  9. HALF-TIMEpublished at 17:48 British Summer Time 24 June 2019

    Spain 1-1 USA

That was a good half of football for a neutral. And for a Spain fan. The USA won't be too happy though.

    Spain 1-1 USA

    Lucy Ward

Spain have done well, all half, of dealing with the might of USA going forward. It's been a satisfactory half for them, not so much for USA.

A couple of times now Spain have got an interesting ball across, they've got in between the centre-half and the full-back. They've got bodies around and been intricate, they just couldn't get anyone on the end of it.

Megan Rapinoe takes the corner but Spain keeper Sandra Panos, under pressure, palms it to safety.
