David: Uh-oh Martens, who has had a bad tourney so far has scored a beautiful flick, might just start her playing well now, bad news for the others.
Netherlands 1-0 Japan
Shanice van de Sanden has been fairly quiet on the right wing for the Netherlands. She is still working hard though and tracks back to get a foot in.
Jackie Groenen then wins a throw-in near the touchline.

The Japanese have reacted really well and they haven't buckled in any way. They have had their best chance of the game in classic Japanese style.

What fantastic build-up from Japan. One and two touch then when they go they go quickly. Sugasawa tried to do everything right and curl it around.
Netherlands 1-0 Japan
Oh, what a chance!!
It's a lovely move from Japan. Quick, one-touch passing, before slipping it through to Yuika Sugasawa in the box.
Her first touch is good, taking it a yard to the right of centre-back Stefanie van der Gragt, but Sugasawa's curling effort strikes off the wrong side of the right post.

I thought the Netherlands would punish Japan from set-pieces - physical and tall. But that was intelligent play from Lieke Martens.

It's a really well worked corner.
Everyone went to the back post after the last one but they played it low to the front post. It still has to be a good touch and it's a delicious finish.
You have to say it's deserved.
Lieke Martens
A corner is whipped in towards the near post and Lieke Martens gets a brilliant flick on, with the back of her heel.
It takes a very slight deflection off Yuika Sugasawa and rolls into the bottom right corner.
Lovely stuff!
Netherlands 0-0 Japan
You can already see from the average positions of each team, how different their styles are (Netherlands on the left, Japan on the right).
The Netherlands are expansive. They use the width well, while Japan are far more compact. So far, it's pretty even.

The Dutch are so quick on the counter-attack. Martens just strayed offside but they were so quick and got numbers into the box.
Netherlands 0-0 Japan
The Japanese look to break but again, a sloppy final ball lets them down. Lieke Martens is then sent through on the left and the Netherlands go straight up the other end.
Vivianne Miedema is free again in the centre but this time, Martens' cross flies too high, over her head. The flag then goes up on the far side. It's for Martens but she didn't look offside?
Netherlands 0-0 Japan
Risa Shimizu makes a run off the shoulder of the defender down the right but Hina Sugita's pass is poor.
It gifts the ball back to the Netherlands, who are just starting to control the tempo of the game.
Netherlands 0-0 Japan
Yuika Sugasawa slips on the right as Japan have numbers forward. Lieke Martens robs the ball off her and holds it up.
The Netherlands transfer it around the back and switch it over to the right.

That's where the Dutch are going to get Japan - out wide. Vivianne Miedema comes late but Sameshima produces a great block.
Netherlands 0-0 Japan
Lieke Martens sprints down the left and has so much space to pick out a cross. She puts it on a plate for Vivianne Miedema to volley but Aya Sameshima makes a crucial block.
It deflects inches past the right post. That's where the Netherlands are so dangerous!

Japan want to play out from the back and they feel confident but you only need to make one mistake. So far, they look comfortable.
Netherlands 0-0 Japan
Japan are so good at keeping the ball. They coolly play it out from the back before Hina Sugita's smart turn wins another free-kick.
The Dutch are pressing high and putting pressure on. So far, the Japanese are dealing with it.

Sulaimon: European champions vs Asian Champions. It's definitely going to be exciting with goals and VAR controversies. Looking out for Japanese Iwabuchi and Dutch and Arsenal Striker Miedema.
