  1. 'Both sides playing the same system'published at 21:09 British Summer Time 25 June 2019

    Netherlands 1-1 Japan

    Pat Nevin
Former Chelsea and Scotland winger on BBC Radio 5 Live

The Dutch have started quite lively and they have started to get a bit of their personality back into the game.

We know the Japanese are not going to be effected by that and both sides are playing the same system they were in the first half.

  2. CLOSE!published at 49 mins

    Netherlands 1-1 Japan

Free-kick for the Netherlands in a decent position, about 25 yards out. Sherida Spitse is standing over it.

She gets it over the wall but keeper Ayaka Yamashita dives low to her right and does enough to parry it away.

  3. Postpublished at 47 mins

    Netherlands 1-1 Japan

This is more like it from Shanice van de Sanden. The Lyon winger's turn is sharp and she out-paces the full-back on the right.

Her cross is a dangerous one, which the keeper doesn't deal with but Vivianne Miedema doesn't get there.

  4. 'Will the Dutch go high-tempo?'published at 21:06 British Summer Time 25 June 2019

    Netherlands 1-1 Japan

    Pat Nevin
Former Chelsea and Scotland winger on BBC Radio 5 Live

I'm intrigued to see if the Dutch go for the high-tempo game at the start of the second half?

But I think it's risky because if they run out of gas again they could be in trouble.

Gareth Miller: Lots of talk about women's football for the 'wrong' reasons, lately. Netherlands and Japan showing the right reasons to be talking about the FWWC. Excellent game so far.

Are we heading to extra-time? Or will there be a winner?

Aleks Yakubssohn: All-in-all this seems like the most evenly matched and thus most unpredictable and hence most intriguing of the 1/8 games at this WC. In all other matches there was at least slight advantage on one or another side, here you just can't make any prediction now.

  8. Goal of the tournament?published at 21:00 British Summer Time 25 June 2019

    HT: Netherlands 1-1 Japan

    It's a beauty.

  9. 'Japan have grown into the game'published at 20:59 British Summer Time 25 June 2019

    HT: Netherlands 1-1 Japan

    Alex Scott
    Ex-England international on BBC One

This young Japanese side have grown into the game and they will be exceptional in a few years, but they are coming into their groove.

Like they said, they needed that game with England to get up to speed.

Liam Moncur: Fantastic first half of football. Iwabuchi reminding me of Iniesta right now.

Cure Pip: Anyone notice Hasegawa giving the keeper the eyes? Great goal.

  11. Bad news for Japan...published at 20:58 British Summer Time 25 June 2019

    HT: Netherlands 1-1 Japan

The side to have scored first in every match of the last 16 has gone through to the quarter-finals so far.

  12. 'Miedema can be quiet but then get a goal'published at 20:57 British Summer Time 25 June 2019

    Netherlands 1-1 Japan

    Jordan Nobbs
    England midfielder on BBC Four

You want to see both these teams grow into the tournament. It's fair Japan went in level.

Martens is the player the Dutch have wanted to get on the ball, it's a shame they haven't done that more.

Her finish will give her confidence going into the second half. With Vivianne Miedema she can stay quiet during the game but then get you a goal.

The fact that they are European champions means they think they can go far in tournaments.

  13. Postpublished at 20:56 British Summer Time 25 June 2019

    HT: Netherlands 1-1 Japan

Lieke Martens became the first Netherlands player to score at two different World Cup tournaments.

It was the earliest the Dutch have ever scored at a World Cup and was her 43rd international goal on her 70th appearances.

She has scored five of those goals against Japan - more than any other country.

  14. 'She needs to keep exploiting those spaces'published at 20:56 British Summer Time 25 June 2019

    HT: Netherlands 1-1 Japan

    Alex Scott
    Ex-England international on BBC One

Martens has been the star player for the Dutch but she is yet to come to life in this tournament until tonight. She needs to keep exploiting those spaces.

  15. Postpublished at 20:53 British Summer Time 25 June 2019

    HT: Netherlands 1-1 Japan

Not a bad set of goals in that first half!

This was the first - a lovely little flick from Lieke Martens, who has been dangerous down that left-hand side for the Netherlands.

  17. 'Japan grew into the game'published at 20:51 British Summer Time 25 June 2019

    Netherlands 1-1 Japan

    Alex Scott
    Ex-England international on BBC Four

Netherlands started better and Japan couldn't cope with the pace and intensity.

But then Japan grew into the game.

  18. HALF-TIMEpublished at 20:49 British Summer Time 25 June 2019

    Netherlands 1-1 Japan

    A very entertaining game.

  19. Postpublished at 45+3 mins

    Netherlands 1-1 Japan

Emi Nakajima hacks at the heels of Jackie Groenen and gives away a needless free-kick in the centre.

It's a chance for the Dutch to ping one into the box but Sherida Spitse's ball is a poor one and it skips away from Vivianne Miedema at the back post.

  20. 'Not sure why Japan made a slow start'published at 20:48 British Summer Time 25 June 2019

    Netherlands 1-1 Japan

    Sue Smith
Former England forward on BBC Four

Japan just seem to be getting better and better. I wasn't too sure what the slow start was down to.
