Lieke Martens has nowhere to go and nobody to pass to on the left so she has to turn back inside and hold up play until there's support from Merel van Dongen.

The Dutch remain patient though. It's eventually blocked on the edge of the box.

The quality has been superb. Generally, the passing has been great and both sets of players have been at a very high standard.

It may be the best half of football we have seen at this tournament.

Vivianne Miedema tries to thread it through to Shanice van de Sanden but there's two defenders there to make the block.

Danielle van de Donk then lifts it into Van de Sanden but the winger's header bounces comfortably into the keeper's hands.

Barcelona defender Stefanie van der Gragt has her arms all over Yuika Sugasawa and Japan win a free-kick in midfield.

Nothing comes of it but the Dutch are just starting to get frustrated.

That move started right from the back and they found the space all over the field. Pep Guardiola would have been purring if he had watched that.

Japan really do look good when they string everything together. They play with arrogance and composure to bring the ball out from the back before Hina Sugita draws players towards her with a driving run towards the edge of the box.

She thinks about shouting before laying it off to Yuika Sugasawa to her right and the striker's effort flies over the bar.

Here is Vivianne Miedema, making a sprinting run into the left corner. She holds the ball up and the Dutch move it across the edge of the box.

It's curled in towards Shanice van de Sanden at the far post but again, the winger's final delivery is a poor one.

Merel van Dongen's ball from right-back goes all the way through to the Japanese keeper. Vivianne Miedema slaps her thighs frustratingly.
